Hi all,

I have a 1st Edition, 1st Print CoC boxed set, but it is missing the dice.  I believe I have them among the 200 lbs of dice that I have stashed away, but I don't know what the original dice looked like.  Does anyone have a pic or description of these dice that I might be able to use to complete the set?

Many thanks in advance,

Andy

I do'nt think I have a 1st CoC, will have to check, Boreas.  I'm sure Jason or Steven can likely answer the Q before I can though ;)

I played with a 1st edition CoC back in the early 1980's. The box disintegrated and I only have the books, etc. I do not specifically recall the dice other than that they were a pair of percentiles (D20's I believe) and two or three very small D6's.

Perhaps Redbus can confirm?

I don't own a 1st ed. CoC, but:

That seems likely, as a number of later Chaosium boxes still used d20 percentiles.

I'm sure I've seen pictures of 1st CoC boxes that had other non d20/d6 dice included.  Don't know if they were originals or not though.

I've got both a 1st edition, 1st print CoC and a 1st edition, 2d print.

The 1st edition, 1st print has a pale cream colored d20, a pale brown d4 and a white d8 (in each case, with uncolored numbers), and three small white d6s (each normal looking, with black dots).

The 1st edition, 2d print has an orange d20, a white d4 and a white d8 (in each case, again, with uncolored numbers), and two small red d6s and a small green d6 (each with white dots).

The outside of the boxes also say that included are six dice:  1d20, 1d8, 3d6 and 1d4.

I bought the 1st edition, 1st print myself in the elder days, so I can vouch for the originality of the dice.  I bought the 1st edition, 2d print on eBay, but would still assume that the dice are original (though I have no evidence, other than their apparent cheapness, to back that up).

So it looks like Chaosium may have just dumped whatever dice they could lay their hands on into the boxes.

LOL.  Heck no.  Has that ever happened?  :)

The insert in the box says: "We have packed SIX DICE (1D20 , 1D8, 3D6, 1D4) in this box, sufficient to play BRP and Call of Cthulhu."

This sounds similar to the set that was included in the original Stormbringer, too.  Maybe the dice are the same?  I will check my Stormbringer tomorrow, but I remember that the 3d6 were small and similar to what Avalon Hill included in their boxed games back in the day.  The other dice were each a different color?  I think the d20 was purple.

Thanks for the help, all.  I am sure one will come up on ebay eventually that might provide a look at the dice that were included.  'Course, how will we know they are the original :?:

Anyone else out there have this set?

Andy

Doh!  I should have been a bit more patient.  Thank you, Bracton.
