Castle Zagyg, what has been produced? What is in print? What, if anything, is out of print?

TLG's forums are probably the best place to ask that question, but here's what their product page shows:

Sorry to threadjack you here but I was wondering if anyone else had any problems with their LA orders from Troll Lord games recently?

I put in an order but the LA Essentials boxed set never arrive.  I emailed Steve but haven't received any response.

What do you mean by recently? They are still recovering from the week-long power outage that ate hundreds of emails, so its possible he never got the email.

Also, I don't think anything CZ is "out of print" other than waiting to be reprinted when they sell out.

I think he is talking about legendary adventures stuff.

The "email issue" affects all product lines equally -- Steve and TLG were hit hard by Gustav and lost power for a week. They are getting things back in order now, but they lost several hundred emails which were simply either undelivered (should have bounced back) or ones that Steve hasn't gotten to yet. LA Essentials is sold out, last I heard.

So, my question still remains -- how recent is recent? If its been like, in the last week, then you've probably been pushed to lower priority as Steve answers what he has from weeks ago. If it was weeks ago, its probably being gotten to soon. Either way, if needed, I can give him a beating and get it all sorted out one way or the other. :)

I actually haven't had much response since the end of August.  I place my order at the end of August, then a few days later received an email that one of the old $1 D20 items was not available and that I owed extra for shipping to Canada.

Then, I sent 2 or 3 emails asking whether they wanted to invoice me for the extra shipping or send me their paypal address.  When I didn't get a response about 10 days later, I looked on Paypal and just sent the money.  The package showed up and LA Essentials was also missing (not previously mentioned as being unavailable).  So, last week I sent an email about this but haven't heard anything back yet either.

So, basically, over the past month I have sent 3 or 4 emails and haven't received any response to them.  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing or if this was typical of TLG.

I had ordered two LA essentials. They both arrived one with dice and the other without.

After TLG had power restored Stephen Chenault emailed me to say that they had run out of dice for the boxed sets and would not have any more.  :(

It does take patience when writing to the Troll Lords.  Calling them works better, but then not everyone can do that for cheap if not in the USA.
Email with all the order info probably once a week, but just know Stephen has had his email box fill up in the past. I believe he uses the Firefox Thunderbird or similar program (which isn't like Gmail or Yahoo with unlimited capabilities)

Actually, his use of Thunderbird won't have an effect on his email storage capacity because Thunderbird, like Outlook, isn't an email service but a front end to accessing email.  He's likely using sendmail for his email service since all emails are to trolllord.com.  Unless he owns the server itself, there is likely a cap on his sendmail account, which is why he should have a backup email account through gmail.

So what is the core product? The Yggsburgh Hardcover?

Depends what you are after. Yggsburgh covers the town and area surrounding the Castle, and not much (if anything) of the Castle itself. So, if all you want is Castle, Castle, Castle... then Upper Works is the "core product" right now. If, however, you want all of it... then, well, both are core, with the Yggsburgh expansions being supplementary (but cool.)

I'd been very interested in the Castle Zagyg series when I first heard of it, then was away from gaming for awhile and it was released. I like most of what Gygax has produced. Yggsburgh is listed as Vol. 1 and seems to be the core item. Was it the first one released?

has the Upper Works been released yet? Did Gary write any of the released material (in print rather than pdf) besides Yggsburgh?

Anyone who has Yggsburgh, how does it compare to Gygax's City of Greyhawk?

Upper Works debuted at GenCon.

Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh was alongside Dark Chateau (the first ancillary module to the Yggsburgh/ CZ project,) so I forget which came first, literally, though I believe Yggsburgh did but not by much.

Regarding what Gary wrote: the Castle is constructed directly from Gary's notes on the subject, coupled with what has been called The Castle Bible, both written directly by Gary. He was always revising as well. He also controlled what would be included in the Yggsburgh expansion modules (the 24 town sections, some currently in flux production-wise) though he did not write these. I will also add that not everything in the Castle is directly Gary's either -- I wrote a very few monsters for it, upon being asked to do so, so, while that text is not Gary's per se, it was a request nonetheless so make of it what you will.

Yggsburgh is like Greyhawk, and not. Its far more Renaissance, much more detailed, smaller, but familiar all the same. There were some very bad editing errors so some things are not as they were intended. I haven't gone through and did a real comparison as I am not overly fond of Greyhawk anyway.

Looks like TLG has at least some Upper Works boxed sets in. I ordered one over the weekend and it just arrived this morning!
