Just wondering ... if it is newly listed as a BIN, why only list it for 7 days when 30 is the same price?

Doesn't make that much sense, but the seller probably did not expect it would last even 7 days at that BIN.

I'd wager it doesn't make it past the weekend with the BIN set below $200.  As far as I know there hasn't been one of these up for under that price point in the last couple of weeks (since John Gaunt's closed anyway).

You know, I'm with BC on this one. I think everyone that wanted one at $200 has one now. I expect the price to settle a bit before coming to a stop...eventually $150 perhaps?

Depends entirely on print run, demand and the intestinal fortitude of the speculators who stocked up on them.  I honestly don't believe that there are enough of these around to meet the demand long term. But short term, even $150 seems unresonable for a set so newly produced and so available six months ago that they were being sold at a discount.

Long term, this set seems to me to be as close as we are ever likely to get to Castle Greyhawk. Gygax's hand was on this one. The history surrounding it, being yanked from TLG and turned over for what kind of rehashing with what kind of rule system. While Gygax's heirs would be fools not to publish some version of Castle Zagyg how will it ever be the same as this set written with a rules system so close to Gygax's own.

How many were made? A few thousand at most and many collectors will want two at least. An open copy to read and a copy to put away safely.

Short term prices like the ones we have seen are usually a bubble and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for under $150 but I think anyone could sell them easily and in quantity for under $100.

A $100 sale on these is an incredible return in so short a time, but long term, say five years from now, I just have the feeling, $200+ easily.

Arrgh... want to pull... the.. trigger...

Must resist, as I look on the shelf & see $40 sets.

Funny how the perception of value somehow... defines value...?

I can qualitatively state that figure is not accurate. Aim lower. I will not divulge the precise print run, but even 1k is too much.

As for why they were sold at discount, the answer is simple: Troll Lord Games was forced to get rid of available stock. They had some copies available for purchase at GenCon, and then had less than 4 months to sell out (or destroy) all remaining... so, rather than risk pulping everything, they tried to sell them, and that means "fire sale."

Soon, the box set will be very, very hard to find.

Of course, I do understand the reluctance to purchase at the increased price, especially if one were looking to play with it. That is the most dreadful shame, in my opinion, as this may end up being a "collector's item" and not something the "typical player" has... much like L3, for example.

Well, someone offered $135 and my friend accepted, so it is sold.

I reckon that has to be called cheap in the current market - though in fairness to your buddy, he has probably tripled his money by dint of very little effort. (Guess everyone's a winner).

That is the same Zagyg I posted above at $180 BIN w/BO.  The BIN was lowered to $160, and it did not sell.  There are several low feedback bidders competing against the runner up in the $135 auction that ended today.  I am a little suspicious about the many low feedback bids on this auction, but before I cry "shilling!" I need to piece through the timing of those bids.  Looking at it at first glance gives me a headache.

Lately, they seem to be selling far a bit less than a month ago.

A month ago, you could expect as much as $250, and certainly around $200.

Now it looks like with some patience, one can be had for around $135....

While at Mikes house this past weekend (Playing D&D) someone said that he thought the folks who were willing to spend $200 or more have one now and wont pay that anymore.

Now the folks who stopped bidding shy of that mark back then are still looking.

Sounds plausible to me.

Very true.  Mine sold for 149.99 but now I don't have a "hold onto" copy.  After reading about multiple copy holders, it occured to me that selling it was short sighted *but apparently well timed*.  Now it's going to bounce around for a while until the supply/demand settles out.  You never know when you might find one for "cheap" so you just keep poking away with the sharp stick until you do.

The next couple of months will probably see quite a few hit ebay, I would guess that some will end below the $100. mark simply because the those who can spend it, already have.
