One of, if not the last location of wild European bison, as I recall.  Though a fence between Belarus and Poland that runs through the center of the forest has split the herd and means that the future is not so rosy for them.

Edit: and "primeval forest untouched since the 15th century" sounds like the perfect initial plot-hook for a Call of Cthulhu campaign (to get this back on topic ;) )

Hi,

I thought traditional Cthulhu settings had to involve an Antique Shop?
:D

Cheers,
Malc

I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Antique shop?  Of course not.

It can also be a library.

I recommend checking out John Wick's Curse of the Yellow Sign .pdf adventures for some non research/library/antique shop CoC. Act 1 and 2 are now out (both are single shot adventures). I have only purchased Act 1 so far, but I plan on getting the second one also. Very good if you like playing nazis in the jungle.

Chaosium currently has a 30% off sale through their online store.
Typically these sales only last 2-3 days.

I was impressed by some of the discounts there.  Chaosium is on their game at the moment.

Congragulations of Mysteries of Sudan, Jason.  Nice work.

How important was Winston Churchill's The River War as a source?

Churchill's book filled in some details but the gems that I found during research were:
Egyptian Soudan Its Loss and Recovery by Henry S.L. Alford and W. Dennistoun Sword (love the name)
and
Prisoners of the Mahdi by Byron Farwell

Edit: I also got my hands on a Stanford University Cultural Anthropology monograph about the southern Sudan Dinka tribes written by a native of that region.

And those prices are high as well.  I've picked up a couple copies recently in the $15-40 range.

Others that I felt were too high:

UO 8/9 @ $52 - cheaper on amazon
Grimrock Isle @ $42 - still available from Triad for $18

Obviously the really limited stuff is unpredictable, but I thought most of the rest went for around what I expected.

This collection aside, it seems like there has been a lot of good CoC stuff available recently.  Is this an anomaly?

Although I have not been tracking these, when they have come up for auction over the last few years they have all fetched a decent price.

At one point I believe that Scott Glancy had inquired if John Crowe was willing to reissue the book. If I recall correctly he wanted to rework much of the content and artwork so at the moment the project is either on hold or very low priority.

EDIT: If anybody is looking for a list of modern items for BRP game play the following 220 page monograph might be of interest.
