Hello all.
Anyone of you groovy experts know what the dice were like in the 1st Ed. Pendragon box set by Chaosium?
It usually came with six d6 and at least one d10 I think. I have a set with six ivory coloured quite traditional looking (i.e. non-rpg) dice and two red d10s. Not sure if they are the right sort.

One
d20
(I believe mine is either white or red, I can check when I get home -- can't recall if it's numbered 1-20 or 1-10 twice either), shipped un-inked
IIRC
, and six d6es. The d6es are smaller than the normal 16mm six-sider and kinda cheap looking/feeling. 10mm perhaps?

Cool - my
d20
(i.e. a d10 that is pythagorean) is red. the other one is also red. Both un-inked. And the d6s are definitely cheap looking - although prob about 12-14
mm
(have to get the box out again to check). sounds good
Thanks!

Having arrived home and had a chance to look, I can confirm that my
d20
is a) white, b) un-inked, and c) numbered 1-20.
Chaosium did include un-inked, red, 1-10 twice dice in some of their games though (I have one in my ElfQuest box), so it's possible that that's where they came from. Or the UK release might have been slightly different in this respect.
I also measured a d6. Definitely in the 10mm range. The various Chaosium d6es are probably the smallest dice I own.

In my copy, original dice are:
- one dark blue
D20
, numbered 1-20, cheap looking
- 6 dark yellow D6, cheap looking, similar to D6 in AH boxed set.
I am sure that the dice are original once since I open the shrink myself when I got the box.
So, different dice & different print?
Oh, and D6 mesure 11mm.

I have the same dark blue
d20
, uninked, numbered 1-20. And six red d6 (10-11mm) with white pips.

I just happened to read, over on Greg Stafford's
Pendragon
site, that the boxed set shipped with 1d20 and 6d6.
The cost of shipping boxes...which were needed to hold the dice...added $7 to the price. Greg says that they also cost a lot in import duties when sent to Australia. He says they even tried shipping dice separately because there was no charge for just books.

Pretty sure my two red d20s are original, based upon people's comments above. Not so sure about the d6s - although they are pipped rather than numbered which sounds similar to other people's experience, but ivory coloured and slightly larger 15.5mm across.
As to boxes - I can well imagine how they are much more expensive to ship (and way more pricey to produce!!!), but I do prefer them to just books.
