From boardgamenews:

Gone Cardboard News: Titan - Announced from Valley Games

At the 2007 GAMA Trade Show, Valley Games announced another highly-desired and long out-of-print Avalon Hill title that will be coming out in a new edition: Titan.

Yes, Titan. The reprinting of Titan, while dreamed about by hundreds if not thousands of gamers, has long been considered an impossibility due to co-designer David Trampier's lack of interest/conversion to Buddhism/abduction by Wiccans—yet somehow Valley Games is making it happen.

Says Kevin Nesbitt, "Artwork will be by Kurt Miller and is very much an upgrade. The rules will be updated and clarified. It will remain a 2-6 player game, and game play will remain very true to the original. This game will have an MSRP of $69.95—due to a LOT of pieces!—and will be available for preorder this spring along with our other announced titles." We'll have more details when the Valley Games folks aren't hustling around a trade show.

Good news indeed. Although Kevin Nesbitt's line about "Artwork will be by Kurt Miller and is very much an upgrade" - I don't see how the original Tramp art can be improved on in any way.

I can't get excited about new releases of old games because I am a Collector and like old things. Given a choice between the new release and a NM early AH version, I would buy the AH version. On the other hand, it is a great game and making it available to a new generation is of course a good thing.

It sound (to me) that the new artwork is how they're "getting around' Trampier's lack of cooperation.  That way, they only have to deal with the designer who actually answers phone calls.

I hope they don't change the rules.. only add in the errata clarifications. But you know some people always have to meddle.

I hope they're not just running ragged over Tramp's authorial rights, just because he's not available to comment or say "yea or nay" :(

I wonder if they are going to change it just enough to get around the Tramp Factor...namely, the fact that he's not interested and doesn't care.  The fact is he's "available" in the context he's here on planet earth...but doesn't appear to be too involved in anything connected to our hobby.

Personally, I'd love to see a nice cheap version of the game so I can actually play it with my grandkids nowadays without having to place all the pieces in plastic or something.  Even though I'm a "seller" primarily, I love having items like this become available (just like the great Arkham Horror game awhile back) because in the long run they want to be played, not stuck in a dusty closet....

Think about it.  In this edition you won't have entire armies wiped out by a spilled Coke.  :D
