I've got a booklet here called "Knights and Berserkers and Ledgermain Player's Guide."

This one's dated to 1980, so it's the first edition of the game.  Are there any other booklets to go along with it, or is this it?

The 2nd edition apparently came in a boxed set, but I don't know anything else about 1st edition.

I think there should also be a spell book.  A set of Dungeon Floor plans was also produced but sold separately and they are generic.

There's a "Beginner's Spell Book" written into the player's guide with sixty or seventy some-odd spells.

It seems like there should be a GM's Guide or something.  The player's guide seems fairly complete, but it does leave out monsters.  It's got chargen, advancement, combat, equipment, and so on.  I don't see any references to any other books on first glancethrough, but that means zip.

I'll see if I can dig up anything else - info on this game is very sparse.

I saved one of the Ebay auctions for these from last year.  Included was the Player's Guide as you mention, there is also a Kabal Referee Guide, Kabal Magik Spells, and loose charts and tables.  I don't recall seeing one that was boxed but I haven't looked too hard either.  This set sold for $53.

Thanks. Would be interested to see whether that tallies with the one Mark mentioned, above. (Ended up here, even though I wasn't the highest bidder).

No sign of a box here, but production values are otherwise fairly high for small press - with a bonus touch of red foil, again - and the percentile based system looks crunchy. :)

@ Thornhammer: Yup, "Beginner's Spell Book" is written into the Player's Guide (dated 1980) with the white "Magic Spells" book dating 1981.

I think Noble Knight had a set at ~$75 when that previous auction was up, but it vanished pretty quickly. Aaron still has the "placeholder" for that.

Regards,
David.

Afterthought: Might've sold better with the half-naked lady warrior on the front cover, rather than the back. Or maybe that was the ploy...

I won the one last year. The seller (who is one state over) never got back to me about it.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

I have the auction that you won saved for reference.  I don't seem to recall a box in that one.  However, they did have full page colour ads in Dragon magazine for this that include the box.  They also released player records pads and hex-hex-hex sheets.

The 2nd edition is similar to this one.
- The Referee guide is the same
- The Players guide states "second edition" and came with a yellow border
- The Magil Spells have a purple border and "new" is added before the title
- Character sheets are similar and Charts too.
I will take a picture when I get my camera back.

The box for the 1st and 2nd edition is similar too but on the 2nd edition box it is stated "New expanded 2nd edition Spell book" in a yellow square in the middle-top of the box.

However good or bad this is as a game is irrelevant - it looks soooo cool!

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

In the picture you posted for the second edition books, I don't see the Creature Catalogue book or is it stapled together with the Referee Guide?

Do you know if the first edition of the boxed set has the Creature Catalog as well?

I remember playing in a demo of this game waaay back, might even have been at Gen Con Parkside.

Nice folks, had a lot of fun. Don't remember much about the system, though. I made up a berserker character named "Groo." 'nuff said!

I have a shrink copy of KABAL upstairs, looks like it's probably the 2nd edition IIR the cover correctly.  I had a copy of one the KABAL rules booklets, which contained some random dungeon generation tables in it; traded/sold the book a few years ago, but copied that table before doing so ;)

edit:  yep, mine's the 2nd edition.
