Necromancer Games has released The Eamonvale Incursion, Demonheart and Slumbering Tsar as PDFs HERE as well as DriveThru
They are looking into print on demand since DriveThru is starting to allow it, but no word yet on that.

An interesting development in a couple of ways.

First, projects that never launched suddenly launching. That does not happen much. Usually dead is dead.

Second, the move to PDF format seems to indicate an intention not to publish in hardcopy again...?

Intention or ability. It could be that having completed manuscripts it is affordable to release them as either pdfs or print on demand but not to go to the great expense of having them preprinted.

I think this is the future of publishing, not just for the RPG niche but for books in general. Down the dark corridor of an increasingly illiterate future I cannot see the continuation of large scale book, newspaper and magazine publications. Add this to the never ending cost increases in paper, ink and transportation I believe we will see more and more pdf and print on demand and less and less of the traditional hardcopies.

Necromancer may make such a leap now out of necessity but very shortly I believe it will simply be standard practice.

Isnt that what Google are planning on with their online library service? As I understand libraries and publishers are staunchly opposed.

I can imagine that publishers are opposed to public content in the same way that record labels are fighting against their own demise and print newspapers are struggling with their last breath.

Anyone got a price guide for the Necromancer stuff? Other than Rappan Athuk, Abysthor and the JG Stuff, I thought they were all $5 items. My FLGS has most of them for two or three pounds a piece.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

If you check online you will find considerably higher prices than that.

Well probably depends on what they are, I'd imagine the hardbacks and box sets being more.

The Drow War series is a set of relatively high quality hardbacks with an epic adventure inside.

They are supported by good art.

The books include a number of very good adventures....10 per book as I reall....which tend to involve unique situations and movie-like plotlines.

The books are a fun read and are a great mine of ideas for anyone not interested in running the adventures.

Until this current lot of books up on Ebay (and 13 sounds like a lot, but is not really that many), Book 1 was getting expensive and/or hard to find. We're in a downturn in the market which D20 collectors should regard as an opportunity...one they will regret not taking advantage of in coming years.

As I recall, my review of the Drow War series is in this topic, somewhere in the pages above.

This series stands out above other Mongoose products as it is the work of a single author who managed to get his campaign into print. Although it has some Mongoose-isms (such as an annoying graphic repeated around the edge of every page), the series avoids some of the other pitfalls typical of Mongoose. For instance, it is densely packed with ideas and crunchy bits, unlike...say...some of the Conan RPG books which have all the substance of marshmallow frosting.
