I do believe that was the "Slayers Guide to Giant Shrews".

The Slayer's Guide to Rules Lawyers is funny.

that would be the reason for not a big seller I think.. good for a laugh or two but why buy it over something you can actually use... of course this may in turn make it rare in the future.. you never know...

I've just had the 'pleasure' of reading through an online copy of the D20 Book of Erotic Fantasy. There is some odd shit in there...  8O

Having no collection of D20 items, did the game play include this typically, or is it just a random offshoot?  :?

You piqued our collective interest with a d20 book of erotic fantasy - do you have a link to the product  :)

If you want a copy, I think there's one in my LGS. I could ask the owner how much he's selling it for, but I'm not planning to go there until the PfRPG Bestiary is out.

I was planning to collect this book just because, you know, someone printed it.

After reading a PDF of the product I decided that I don't want it.

I found the book a bit repulsive.  It's a book about sex and D&D, but it ain't particularly sexy.

I don't want my kids going through my game collection years from now and asking, "Why did dad have this in his collection?"

It just might be collectible.  Future generations might find it really cool.

Good luck with that.  :?

Hi,

isnt there 2 versions of this?

One was an official product, then wotc told them to pull it (sic) and they re-published.

Cheers,
malc

I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

To the best of my knowledge this was the product that prompted WotC to insert a decency clause into the OGL.  A 30-ish page preview edition was released bearing the d20 logo.  WotC apparently took one look at it and said no way.  The actual hardback release from Valar Project was strictly OGL and did NOT have the d20 logo.  It was later reprinted by White Wolf who I suppose had nothing better to do at the time.  For a book about sex it is, in fact, NOT sexy at all.  I'll stick with Phil & Dixie, thanks.

From a collector's standpoint I think the d20 preview is slightly difficult to find.  Pretty sure that both of the hardback editions are plentiful.

Exactly that.. I found it, thought I'd have a look and just found it all rather odd. Just curious as to whether D20 had gone down this route particularly or if it was a random item?

I would describe it as an outlier in D20 materials.  Do not waste your time.

The publication in question is well outside the norm of D20 material and...well...pretty much sucks.  It sucks...in a bad way.

I cannot picture anyone using the game rules provided.  They are counter-productive and often just plain grotesque.

The game value of this publication cannot be charted...it is nil, nothing, nada, non-extant, none less possible, zero, squat, bupkis.

(I hesitate to encourage the writers of that book by using terms like "squat" or "bupkis" because they are probably used there as technical terms.)

I'm trying to think of something slightly more contemptuous to say about The Book of Erotic Fantasy, but it would require coining a new term in the English language that combines "boring-gross-stupid-vapid-unpleasant-yucky-and disappointingly not titilating."

I therefore propose the new term:  consubstenchblech

Yup, that's what it smells like....consubstenchblech.

Collect it if you want.  PeeeeYuuuu!  :pukel:

Yes. It looks like a pretty stupid book. I recall there were some humorous D&D 'sex' rules floating around as a document years ago. They were quite funny as it was light-hearted and tongue in cheek. i.e. had tables for diseases your drunken NPC halfling could catch in seedy inns and so forth.

That book is awful and takes itself far too seriously. I certainly won't be buying it.
