I was in a comics/gamestore this weekend and saw a copy of the Book of Erotic Fantasy.  It was hardbound, shrinkwrapped, and had a cover price of $34.95.  I didn't examine it closely because I didn't want to look like a perv.  I think it had the OGL or d20 logo on it.

Is this collectible?  I remember some controversy over the use of Wizards of the Coast's Open Gaming License by some adult-oriented products.

Please pardon my lack of detail; I'm posting this from work, so my research ability is, uh, limited at best.

i would say it is collectible... youre right: it is a d20 product and hence not so uncommon! there are a lot of copies spread around the world and there's no uncesored edition or smtg similar...

I think Sci Fi Genre sold out of the first batch they offered on their website before it was even available.

I count five copies on Ebay for $25 or less...and another five in Ebay stores for $35 or less. Seems to be a few too many copies around at cover price or less to be very collectible.  Maybe a future collectible...

Only the twelve inch high variant; which is semi-mythical.

Not collectible at all, at least in terms of what most users of this site would call "collectible." YMMV, of course.

The print run was too high, the item was heavily advertised, and modern distribution channels are too good for this to ever have any sort of rarity. I'd place it firmly in the "interesting" category — perhaps with the potential to rise slightly in value — but I just don't see it as a collectible.

Not that that has ever stopped me from holding my copy up with one hand, if you know what I mean (wink-wink, nudge-nudge). Kidding!  :)

From my (questionable) memories of 3E:

I believe they (WOTC) yanked the right to produce this kind of stuff in the D20/OGL liscence. Claimed that "...kids were buying this stuff..." and "...it doesn't fit our image of ourselves..." up to and including "...whackjob...", "...perv..." and "...sicko...".

All kidding aside, I believe that whatever did not sell from the first print was returned....and pulped.

As a footnote, I do not have a copy...yet.

Dave, get the barbarian in the corner a drink, quick!
