Yggsburgh and Dark Chateau in one auction.

There is something a bit odd going on with that bidder.  :?

I think we can sum this one up as a newbie alert.  I would say a typical selling price for these is in the $40-$50 price range with some going for more and some for less.  I remember Roomscapes selling in the $25ish range a few times.

These are a bit like the Creations Unlimited Zayene series from Noble Knight.  One person has a very large stock of them and sells a copy every so often on Ebay.  However, it seems like DaysofKnights is selling them slow enough that they still sell for a decent price.

The auction says that 500 were printed and 100 are in circulation.  Its a good guess that this means they have 400 left in boxes at the store.  Days of Knights is a gaming store owned/run by one of the authors.  If you are wondering about the quality of these, I'm sure BadMike could post his opinion of these for the 3rd? 4th? maybe 5th time :)  or you could search the forums for it.  I think its a pretty accurate opinion.

BTW, I'm looking for a copy of Melanda with Starfax in it if anyone has a copy they would like to sell or trade.

Seller has some less than desireable feedback though.  8O

And the seller that I listed all the MERP stuff above also has a piece of stained-glass art of the Elmore monster manual cover.  I think I have seen one of these mentioned on here before but I dont remember the final price for it.

The seller's comments here actually aren't hyperbole; I've never seen one either.

The holy grail for CE fans

*Sigh* ... too close to Christmas, too many other things going on, and the asking price is a little high-ish, I think. But it is a beautiful thing to behold.

CE was/is a board/card game that is fairly quick to play, features variable player powers, and has a limited role-playing aspect (and, interestingly, I've never met an RPGer who didn't like to play).

The "classic" era for CE and CE collecting is generally considered to be everything released by Eon Products ... this would correspond roughly to 1975 to the early '80s. Eon often advertised in magazines such as The Dragon, Space Gamer, Different Worlds, Ares, etc., and those publications occasionally featured strategy articles, as well.

The game is actually still in print; the latest version was produced by Avalon Hill.

The online version of CE went live in 2003 and, shockingly, is called Cosmic Encounter Online.

Finally, I'm not a big fan of Boardgame Geek, but it does offer a nice CE photo gallery.

That auction I mentioned above is pretty much the Orange B3 for us CE fans. Expansion #9 is very rare; in unopened, unplayed condition is just unheard of. CE products were almost always used by their original purchasers. :)

I sold a copy this summer....at $25 after ONE person bid on it.  It's like Deadlord says, there's always another, and in this case it's not that particularly rare.  I just wish some of these dumbasses would get as excited about some of the items I put up for auction....!

Like some early products, I'd always been interested in the ads of the games, but never picked them up; CE was one of those for me.  Do you have any good pointers for folks who may want to get started to play CE vs. collect every set (he says naively)? :D
