At TSR we never produced any such thing.

Shaw or someone else photocopied some items; simple as that.

I was thinking the same thing...

Hey, anyone need Test Advanced copies of anything TSR?  I'm sure I can come up with something if you give me a couple days...I'll even add "designer notes" to make it look good.....

Not to mention he's also selling a Dragon magazine pull out adventure without stating thus, as well as a lot of bits and pieces.  This guy sells a lot of stuff; it's probably outside his area of expertise and he has no idea what's what.

I have an advance copy of the 3.x PHB, sent to me by Wizards, which will eventually be for sale.

We have spotted at various times the OD&D booklets and supplements in photocopy editions (David has been tracking them, IIRC), too.

Photocopies? Or just a poor photo?

Likely photocopies.

I think there was a discussion of some of the seller's other lots in one of the other threads.

I've bought from movies-movies recently, and he was good/legit, FWIW.  Also, Greg Stafford chimed in on the item @

validating that at least the Prince Valiant copies are test copies.

Those two looked legit from the start.  I do notice that the "I believe these are test copies" has been removed from almost all of the other auctions.  The exception being the one that has a bid (and the auction listing probably couldn't be changed at that point).

these are almost certainly photocopies!! How many "test" printings do you know that have a copy of the cover as well as the contents and from so many companies and they all look the same.. these should be someones collection of photocopies of games..

Well somebody asked the question and the seller answered, "Yes they are - but MAYBE". Good enough for me. Don't see what possible value these things could have, even if they were used by God himself to lay the ground for the originals. Very misleading auction.

I asked a few questions about them too.  I am very skeptical about the Vampire book being a "test copy" as well.

Seller gplays is selling her husband's painted miniatures.  They look nicely-painted for the '80s.  Some good-looking dioramas, too.

Test copies are usually indicated as such, in the item itself, generally on page 1. At least, all the ones I have say so.

This probably isnt ridiculously rare or anything but I can't say when the last time was that I saw one on Ebay.  Tri Tac DM's Book of Nasty Tricks and Misfit Magic:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I noticed that the version on Afterglow2 has different artwork and coloration.  Maybe this is a test copy?

Same seller also has some other nice stuff including a bunch of Space Gamer mags, Runequest hardcover, and some early White Dwarf mags.  Not to mention an unopened pack of Magic: The Gathering cards from the Arabian Nights expansion.  Wonder how much that will go for?

Here's a fun one:  Gary's Beasts of Lejend, signed and numbered:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I like the Lejendary rules books, pretty interesting system, though the artwork is a little janky an inconsisten.
