It's the MASSCONFUSION module for Star Frontiers. I got a copy, and I'm trying to figure out how legit it is.

In my copy, page 4 is a duplicate of page 2.

Anybody know if that's normal for this module?

Yes, I just acquired a copy of this module and unfortunately pages 2 and 4 are duplicates. Also there are many many typos, including some hard to believe ones like calling the Sathar 'Slathar' throughout the entire module. It was written in 1984 so word processors with spell check were not as prevalent. :(

Is there any reason on God's Green Earth that ANY Massconfusion module should go for more than, say, $10 on Ebay? These have been floating around for sale for the last decade plus...they can't be that rare.

YIKES   :!:    8O
A sucker is born every minute.

This week one of them was me.
I bought one of them for $18.50.......
Never had seen one before, so I had no idea that they were so abundant.

Live and learn I suppose.

I didn't even know they existed, but, as someone who is not that into Star Frontiers, I can say "yay!"

** expired/removed eBay auction **

The one I purchased is Lady Eileen's Castle.

The sellers write up looked interesting enough for me to bid up to $20.

I had bid on 2 other of that sellers massconfusion listings (Both of them Fantasy) as well, but stopped short of the winning bids on those.

Thank goodness.

Are they really that bad?

(I have not seen my copy yet)

Even if the spelling is bad, I would think it would have SOME value even if only as an older D&D type off brand RPG tournament module.

DON'T PANIC!

The seller is Robert Jennings, the original publisher of the Massconfusion 1984 tourneys, and author of many of them. They are quite deffinately legitimate, and quite deffinately the original '80s stock. You should have asked him to sign it.

As regards quality, the printing/typesetting isn't great, but the adventures (well the AD&D ones anyway) are just great. Not RPGA tourney standard, but certainly some of the best of the small press tourneys I have read.

And yes, some of them are stupidly rare. But I'll leave it up to you to discover which ones.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Made my payment yesterday and just sent an E-Mail asking for said signature.......
Hopefully he will see that and agree before mailing it.

THANKS for the heads up!

My copy of Janus has different pages on #2 and #4.  Which one are you missing?

Page 2 starts out as "TO:  Federation IPPC Cmd."

Page 4 states "TROUBLE ON JANUS Page 4" at the top.

If you are buying them from fabficbk then you should be safe.  But there was that other guy who was selling fakes of the Gamelords books who I believe also sold fakes of a couple of these.  I am 99% sure the copy of Dungeon of Dr Demento that I have (and originally came from him) is a fake.

It looks like the only 2 that weren't up for sale were:

* Dungeon of Dr. Demento (very difficult to find)
* Water Rights (Gamma World)

That's not where your Dungeon of Dr. Demento originally came from, if it's the one you got from me.  :D   I got it from ETC (or whatever his last incarnation was) at the time I was suggesting everyone should buy his stuff and then chargeback before he screwed all his buyers. I was only able to compare it to Book of Paith and Tomb of St. Duncan, and at the time the paper and print quality looked the same, although the black ink on the cover less dense than I'd expect.

Dungeons of Dr. Demento is certainly the rarity in the AD&D tourneys. Only ever seen it twice on eBay in the past five years.

Actually, you picked it up from dandplayer on Feb 5, 2007 on a BIN of $49.99.  I have the auction saved (as part of my cyber stalking history).  I think this is the same guy who did the Gamelords items.  Then I got it from you.

The paper is very white and better quality compared to the other Massconfusion items and the ink is very dark (especially interior ink).  Also, on the right hand side of the cover you can see a faint line that looks like it was probably the edge of the original when it was scanned in.

He wrote back saying he would have been happy to sign it for me.
But he had shipped it this morning.  I was too late. :(

Ooh. I defer to your better memory.
Maybe I could use some of that auction history to put values on thing on Afterglow2.com?
Can anyone shed any light on the eBay ID 'dandplayer''?
Was he also selling fake copies of Wanderer #1 and #2?
Also of note is that Aaron at NKG has been advertising and selling fake Gamelords Complete Taverns for years now. What's with that?

There was a thread about this, I think back in 2007 as well.  Around that time, I was looking to buy a specific print of Compleat Tavern from NK and told him about the fakes (which at the time were the stock pictures he was using for Compleat Tavern and Phantastical Phantasmagorical Montie Haul Dungeon).  Around then, he removed those stock photos and updated them with authentic ones and destroyed the fakes.
