it would be nice to have a CD with them all on as they are pretty damn hard to get, but saying that, i would still want to hunt down the originals anyway.

I'd second that.

They are just too rare...the real collectors will still hunt them down.

The supplements were a bit of a side line.  Most of them were done by my brother John would wanted to get a bit of the TBH action.  I think all of them had white covers, and I can still remember him getting them sorted out with loads of fancy Letraset.

Mike, you mentioned 'supplements' in the plural.  I only remember (and still have) the 'Glossary of Magic'.  Were there more?  If so, what were they?

Some of the most fiendish adventures we have dealt with arrived in the Beholder.  I am trying, so far in vain, to obtain copies of either the special collections [glossary of magic and the adventure packs] or indeed the original magazines of which i have but a few at present.

In particular I am seeking a copy/transcript of "The Pagoda" and "Gorge Of The Afterlife".  If anyone can offer me a Beholder with these in; a copy thereof; or the adventure collection with these in them... good money would be paid!!

I'm still very interested in being able to republish these in CD/DVD archive format, too, FWIW....

I must admit that I haven't seen any sold in a while now... on the same note wasn't it said that copywrite in the UK lasted 25 years.. this must almost be out of copywrite now? I'd still not like to do it without some permission though...

In the UK if an article is published in a periodical it is only covered by Copyright Law for 25 years. Then the article is considered 'public domain' material. I believe that is also the case in the US. However, reproducing a magazine cover like Dragon may still be covered by Trade Mark Law which is a whole different ball game. At the end of the day, Hasbro would be able to sue you if you released a Dungeon or Imagine Archive 'cos they have the money. Beholder and Tortured Souls! are much smaller fish.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

A complete set of Beholders sold last month @

I think another set was sold by the UK seller ** eBay auction listing blocked.  Please enable cookies in your browser for this site and for eBay! ** for for some unknown reason I can't see any of their auctions except by looking at them by item # (I assume it has something to do with them not shipping to the USA??).  Anyway, James (the seller) mentioned that he sold a set a few weeks ago; can anyone validate?

Allan.

I have been following his auctions - I helpfully filled in a few holes in my Owl & Weasel collection :)  ... he did sell some  Beholders; about seven or eight I think for about £30 or £40 ish each (also some Troll Crusher, Underworld Oracle, News From Bree etc..). I am not a zine collecter really, so I was not bidding on these. I know he has been selling some stuff to the US, but mostly UK I think.

Are they any good?

This entire thread was a great read, as was the Grognard one.
Wasn't into fanzines at the time. At the time I was drawing up many a dungeon. I think I would have enjoyed them, and definitely would like to read some of TBH.

I was fortunate to obtain a copy of Fantasie Scenarios – The Fanzine Supplement No. 2 last year and do a review (which you can find here: rlyehreviews.blogspot.com/2021/12/1981- ... arios.html).

I would certainly like to be able to get hold of the other issues and write about them, but the collector's market for them means they are relatively expensive.

It says
The best is yet to come......

We will be listing a Remarkable and Substantial Collection

of 'Golden Age' RPG & Diplomacy Fanzines

over the next few weeks..........

At £180:03 for the first fanzine, it could get quite expensive!
Wonder if they'll have a "The Underworld Oracles Collected Halls of Testing" (assuming that ever got published)...

I have 'The Beholder' on my Ebay search all these years. This set sold same day it was posted I think. Came up in my search and already sold (for $4,600) when I checked:

It's interesting to see the increment in price since this thread was started in 2006!!!
