Damn me neither, course its the series that is sold out (#1-6).  Not sure if #7-12 is as well.

I understand # 1 to be much more uncommon than 2-6 (in the first series).

I wonder if that's due to a smaller print run?

A while back, Badmike posted about the quality of these books, and I was able to snag 1-6 in my flgs for $120 (Cdn cover, I think)... and he was right, the art, writing, and plot are all well above average, imho.

Yep, well there's three copies of Burnt Offerings listed at $149.95 on ebay.com at the moment. A little optimistic, I think!

Very nice :)  I was just about to list this on Ebay (picked up two addition copies at a local store for cheap a few months ago. 8)

They are getting harder to find.  They are out-of-print and also have a high cover price.

3.5 still lives, and the Pathfinder game seems to be selling well according to gamestore employees that I ask.

Ah, but it let's someone put "priced at $149.95 new" in their auction listing without it being an outright lie.  They seem to be selling well above cover price now for some reason...maybe buyers don't understand that this is the first of 4 (iirc) modules.

Have any non-unique 3E items hit anywhere near $485.00?

That is 4th edition and yes.  A spiked nog has done almost as well and the dungeon screens have bounced from $250-$700 depending on timing and quality of listing.

Several past auctions stated they were given to WOTC employees, so that's one possible source. Not sure if they were distributed elsewhere or not.

They are the holiday employee gifts.  They are not supposed to sell them.  I mentioned mine at ddxp two years ago and there were employees trying to figure out how I got one!  (and I found one available, hehe).  They pop up on ebay very infrequently.  I have seen five Snowballs sold and three spiked nogs.  Most in the last two months, in fact.  The most recent one was based on an angel and the only one I have seen so far slipped past me with a buy it now.

That's two of the five I know of trading.  The other three traded when they were distributed and I was the lucky one who didn't pay approximately $500.  One did almost $600 with shipping.

I paid pretty well for my first spiked nog, then didn't see another until I bought one last month.  Since then two more have come up and the price has been climbing as people figure out what they are....

The screens are at about the same distribution rate but they are pretty dern fragile and about half of those that have been around were damaged before listing or during transit.

Against Stratochamp you probably didn't stand a chance. At least it was an Acaeum member.
