As a general matter, it seems that the true rare items are coming up a lot less today than, say, three or four years ago.  I suspect that in part this is the fault of many of us (me included) on this forum, since once something enters our collection, it never leaves.  Call it the Hotel California effect.  So for the real rares (like an OB3), a collector today may have to pay up substantially, or risk not seeing another for a year or more, if ever.

If this were $20, I would have bought it.  It's too weird not to.

Apparently it is quite suitable for some room that you are going to wreck and use as an office.  :-P

Dunno if this is silly or not, as it involves shrinkage.

All I can say is that someone should have hit the BIN and gotten the lot at half price.

$116 (I believe) apiece? DAYUM. I was surprised when my Wizards went for $100. Why are they so high priced?

Shrinkage most likely.

Getting them all in one swell foop probably didn't hurt either.

I would have hit the BIN ($800 I think) if I had seen it before someone placed the first bid.  All the small sets, all in shrink.

personally i'd be hard pressed to pay that much, but that's just my opinion

i've bought several shrinkwrapped sets of boxed minis that i've opened and found lead rot inside

The same is true for modules in shrink.  There have been a few big shrink sellers in the past that I bought large lots from and in a couple cases, the ones I opened had lots of staple rust and bleed.  I'm sure the hundreds of the modules that seller sold all had the same problem - but they looked good from the outside.

Yeah, I found that it's best to treat the interior of a shrinkwrapped collectible as Schrödinger's cat ;-).

I'd have to wreck a room to make it look and feel like my office cube, so maybe that pitch was aimed at me.

I think it only went as high as it did due to the bidding tactic used. This is why most of the time I just use a snipe service when i really want something. I know there are mixed feelings about that but clearly the second bidder did not like that he was continually being outbid and just drove the cost up and up then took a break then came back it did it more. How they magically stopped at the other persons high bid is somewhat ironic.

I'm not saying it is not worth what it sold for, I just think in this one instance it might have gone for about half of what it did but just a guess.

Deadlord's Grenadier 2001 Wizards box set. I can link the auction if needed. Just kind of weird IMO.

Oops, I meant to say "I'm NOT saying it is not worth what it sold for..." I hate when that happens. I corrected my original post but can't correct the quote.
