aia wrote in My game is live now: VI·VIII·X KUP RPG!:Just a clarification here: did you read anywhere that EGG was really looking for such an approach?

It's only my own impression. The most concrete detail is that Gygax always (or usually, at least) omitted a rule that most other 20th-Century versions of D&D do have, the ability check. (Roll D20; a roll equaling your attribute score or less succeeds.) The effect is that the most prominent numbers on a character sheet, the six abilities, have no direct numerical relationship to the playing of the game.

If a player is new to the game, or isn't consulting the rules during the game, & hasn't noted on the character sheet how the attribute scores affect the game, then the game mechanics will be less apparent (hopefully leading to suspension-of-disbelief, & the feeling that the game is real). While apathetic players will always be with us, the first decade of D&D's existence involved more people who were only beginning to learn the concept. After that (1980s+), players were more likely to understand the mechanics, & so opportunities dwindled for DMs to take this approach.

If I understand the descriptions of your new system correctly, you have in effect re-created this approach by writing it into the rules, rather than depending upon the ignorance of the players.

Received my hardbound copies of VI·VIII·X KUP RPG from DriveThruRPG.com!

They look great (see below pic) and I'm really looking forward to reading through them when time presents.

Love the artwork as well!

Again, happy to support a fellow Acaeum member's creative work and would encourage everyone here to do so.

Thanks for your work and all the best on this creative journey!

Received my set as well. Sent feedback directly to aia, but can tell that a lot of heart and knowledge went into this. Good stuff!

Ah, sorry to post this in delay. Someone might be not interested in my game, but likely everyone here should be attracted by this finding:

For a collector this is an interesting topic.
I'd kindly ask anyone who has the following issue of Europe because i am curious if the conversation with Gygax continues...

Thanks and ciaooo

Speak with Dead is a 3rd-level cleric spell, so you'd need a 5th-level cleric to cast it.

Curious as to how you arrived at the name?
It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

That is the first question Dan Davenport asked me!
Here below a link of the Q&A:
[Q&A] GMaia (VI·VIII·X KUP RPG!) | The Hardboiled GMshoe's Office

Hope you will find it interesting! Ciaooo

"[1:09 PM]GMaia: Fair point: I have never thought to the name till the very last moment… At the end I decided to go with a name which recalls two things:
[1:09 PM]GMaia: 1. is the lagacy from the past (the setting will be centered on a fall Roman-like empire)
[1:10 PM]GMaia: 2. a name which is not something&something or other similar titles…"

In the tradition of player contributions to RPGs, I think we should build upon those meanings of "six eight ten." How about-

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
Schlemeel, Schlemazel, Hassenfeffer Incorporated
We're gonna make it
Give us any chance we'll take it
Read us any rule we'll break it
We're gonna make our dreams come true
For me and you

Well, I like the sound of 'doggerel.' Let's say it's that!

There's no Schlemeel & Sclemazel on that list. So it's available.
