I’m looking for information on White Dwarf magazines.
More specifically the first 100 issues.
What are they worth? I know some were reprinted.
Any good links for identifying reprints?
Any other must have info?

Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike, do you want to collect the paper copies or are you looking for the dvd?
My reccomendation would be: firstly go for the dvd... You have everything on a digital support and you can then start collecting according to the contents of the issues you prefer.

The DVD is a great reference!

I've found RPGG and RPGNet to be decent resources for White Dwarf info.  Here are the links, if you don't have them readily available:

White Dwarf | Periodical | RPGGeek

White Dwarf Magazine Cover Listing - RPGnet  RPG Game Index

RPGG should have the different printings.  Not sure about RPGNet.

As far as valuations, that's a tough one as they can be all over the map.  Maybe someone has a source for that info, other than eBay sold items?  You could check out Noble Knight too, as they will be somewhat close to the prevailing market prices.

Here's an old thread on the topic:

I know I have issues 30something to 100 stashed away, and bought at the time, not since in later years.
I’ve never looked to sell as I didn’t think they be worth a great deal honestly.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm looking at hard copies not the CD, not that I would be opposed to it.
I had seen some of the old threads but not all of those. Some old timers on those threads lol.
Great links! I have not used those.
Any other info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

It appears as though there were multiple reprints of the first three issues (presumably to fill subscriptions and backordering in the early days).
We have Issue #1 and Issue #3 marked as 2nd Reprint August 1979 (so presumably there is also a 1st Reprint with an earlier date.
We also have an Issue #2 marked as 1st Reprint November 1979 (or does that sat 1978 which would make more sense?)
Curious. But that is what I can determine from an online image grab.
Hopefully those here with hardcopies can fill in the bland and/or shed light on the reprint sequence.

I vaguely remember that being right - 3 printings of #1 and #2, and 2 of #3. In any event, at least they're clearly identified on the cover.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

Looks like I have some originals and some reprints.
Lots of reading in my future.

I’m looking to fill in some missing numbers if anyone has any they want to part with.

So Issue #5 was reprinted too? March 1979. Presumably that means Issue #4 got a reprint also. That’s one for the notes for a future update that may never happen. Thanks.

For the later issues, I sold a bunch of lots 50-59, 60-69, etc for $100 each - it took a little bit and 70-79 hasn't sold yet so that's probably close to the upper range for typical used shape.

I thought they’d be only a couple pounds/bucks each

I might have to pull mine out and get them sold!

This was a slippery slope for me.

When I needed a room to store my collection (and in the UK buying an additional room when you buy a house is a fairly sizeable investment), and the quality of PDFs and computer technology would produce the same product, searchable in many cases, and all the major publishers of yesteryear were archiving their past catalogue onto whatever the forerunner was to DrivethruRPG, I realised the majority of what I had I would never read, but wanted to have for completion. So the transition to digital, either by doing it myself, or buying digital product, was a no brainer. I collect the information, but I don't particularly need to have the the physical product because I can still get my nostalgic hit by reading the a magazine or a module, and I can still discover new work the same way, but I freed up a little capital by selling my collection, and I no longer need an additional bedroom in my house to handle my collection.

The one thing I did not factor in was the immense appreciation on resale price (perceived value) over the intervening years. The value of many of the things we discuss collecting here out performs almost all investments I'm aware of.

I knew I read this somewhere.
According to RPGGeek:

Launched in 1977 by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson as a Science Fiction and Fantasy Games Magazine (replacing the Owl and Weasel), White Dwarf was predominantly a roleplaying magazine for many years. After around 140 issues (e.g. the last Advanced Dungeons and Dragons article appeared in issue 93), it became devoted solely to Games Workshop games, and the roleplaying content reduced in favour of miniatures games.

I would still be interested up to issue 100 just for a nice round number.
