I picked up the first two issues of Spectre recently, and the 2nd issue mentions a third being in the works in two months (and it includes part 2 of a scenario begun in #2 too).  #1 also mentions an upcoming "massive scenario" entitled "Knights Keep"---to be published later in 1979.

Anyone know how many issues were in the run, and whether Knights Keep was ever published?

Allan.

For reference, Brett partially answered this on Facebook, stating

Does anyone know more about the "Knights Keep" book?

Also:  does anyone know if there are any D&D sites/indexes for UK D&D zines?  They were particularly prolific over there from 1975-1984 or so, and are very difficult to track down.  There's a partial list @ Fanzines and Slicks but that list includes USA + UK + EU zines, as well as professional magazines, so the list isn't quite as extensive as it appears at first glance.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

I picked up #3 from WIlliam when he sold it recently:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

It's a far slimmer final issue that the first two were, alas....

The third issues does make mention of some of their future projects, which I'll pull out details-wise over the holidays.

Hi Allan,

Did any of these three issues contain any scenarios? Did you ever find out about the fate of "Knights Keep"?

Details on this fanzine are sparse to say the least!

Thanks,
Joe.

Yes indeed!:

- issue #1 (prior to 31 Aug 1979):  The Temple of Manitoba - 15 pages including 2 full-page maps
- issue #2 (presumably Oct-Nov 1979 since it was ~2 months late and was supposed to be out on 31 August 1979):  The House of Thievery - 12 pages including 1 full-page map; The Appleland Groves Part 1 (The Dreaming Caverns) - 11 pages including 1 full-page map
- issue #3 (sometime quite a bit after):  Trolltooth Pass - 1 page wilderness encounter; The Pillars of Gar - 3 pages; Midworld (a Gamma World scenario) - 6 pages

Thanks for that info Allan,

Have you seen my other thread about my attempt to list all the 1970s scenarios? I don't suppose you'd be able to provide photos/scans of a map and a part of the key for those in issues 1 & 2 - The Temple of Manitoba/House of Thievery/Appleland Groves?

(I sent a PM but it says it's unread)

Joe

Hi Joe---

I received the email notification for the PM, just hadn't clicked into the site's PMs UI, which is why it remains unread.  I'll see about sending you some info tomorrow or later in the week---I've got a conference call for GaryCon prep, and then prep for my game tonight to work on this afternoon :D

Allan.
