Way, way back--probably around 1988 or 1989--I participated in a Gen Con demo of a Paranoia boardgame.  Each player took the role of a High Programmer, battling for influence and dominance against other High Programmers.

As far as I know, the game was never released--at least, I've never seen it anywhere in the three decades since.

Does anyone know what became of this game?  I'd be tempted to chalk it up to faulty memory, but I just found the 7-page comic strip which they handed out to us during the event, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Ultraviolet," which I have also never seen anywhere else.

It was definitely never published. A prototype copy of a Paranoia boardgame - presumably the same one - was sold during the special collectors' period of a GenCon auction some years later - 1998 or 1999. (It was called Extreme Paranoia.) I had already spent too much so I didn't bid that high and neither did anyone else - it went for somewhere between $50 and $60, which was a lot lower than expected. No idea who got it, unfortunately.

Wow.  Yeah, that was a steal.  I wonder where it is now?  (And whether any other copies exist, for that matter.)

I pinged Peter Schweighofer to see what he knows about these two, if anything.

Allan.
