salutations...

Does any collect the items from the freerpgday items, or is it just me - I try to get one of everything each year but the last few years - the items available just seem to lack luster - nothing pops out..

yours with keen interest....

Agreed, I wasn't too impressed with the options the past few years either.  But, you get what you pay for, and all that ;)

I like to collect the items too.  Good memories of driving around to all the game stores I could find... a couple years back I was able to find the kit - took all the fun out of it.  Was back last weekend collecting the items in the traditional manner - fun!  I found a couple stores off the beaten path - the event gives me a reason to search them out, and you never know what else you'll find :)

The Paizo module was the hot item it seemed, most were long gone before I arrived.  I hope the Castles & Crusades book (and the other's they've done for Free RPG Day) becomes quasi-collectible Freebies - the Trolls have consistently offered new product and supported this event.  You iz Kobolds is the one I missed that I was after (one only per store).

Curiously I hear mousing from store owners every year.  In the past the complaints were on the customers - you know, picking up items and and not staying to game (guilty  ) or not purchasing product (not guilty :)).  This year, the concerns were the prices of the kit (I heard $150, which does seem steep), and non-delivery of the kits that were ordered.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

I don't have spare copies of the chessex dice and no You Iz Kobold.

I try to make a point to get out to one or more FLGS for Free RPG Day to get the Pathfinder module for myself and a couple buddies, and drop a few bucks at those stores to support their effort in hosting the Free RPG Day stuff, but in general, yeah, the content is lackluster.

I haven't been horribly impressed with a fair amount of the stuff, but I figure a lot of that may be due to my general lack of interest in most current games out there.

I've realized that I'm now a crusty old gamer   since I have zero interest in most of the current crop of games on the market.

Thank goodness for the secondary market to provide for my collecting desires.  I'm finding that all the old out-of-print stuff is far more desirable than most of the current stuff.

This year, only the Pathfinder module and the Munchkin bookmark were compelling enough to get me to come out.  I did snag a DCC screen, for the artwork, since I was there.

The high-level adventure, "Into The Dragon's Maw" by Goodman Games was pretty good, I thought, even though it was not a long adventure.  I agree that the quality overall is down, but it's still worth the trip to the FLGS for me.   8)
