Get a battery backup and have your stuff go through that, even if you break the rules and use power strip coming out of it, they act as backup in case of power outage, and they act as power surge in case of power spikes, and they act as power conditioners in case of brown outs.

I know RPG publishing doesn't pay a lot, but it just takes one fried computer for it to be worthwhile.

Get a decent one, as well. APC, something like 1000VA or more.

What he said.  I've always had my computers and monitors (at least) plugged into a UPS.  Nice to have when the power goes out so I can save my work and power down my system properly.  The one I have is an APC 750VA and its is plenty adequate for what I have:  PC, LED monitor, printer, router, powered usb hub, speakers, and two external drives.

I agree, a good battery backup unit is worth the investment. And of course, don't forget that it's possible to simply write the names/addresses on the labels manually :).

Some of my fondest IT memories are of people asking frantically what to do when the systems were down, especially the POS (point-of-sale) people. I would usually be prepared for the panic, and bring with me pencils and pads of paper and hand them out. Not everyone found it amusing (or even useful).

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I shall invest in such items. Although I did have a very powerful surge protector, but the surge was mighty big.

Bummer, sorry to hear!

If you have a reputable companies power surge protector on there and it still got through, most of them have a guarantee backing them. I'm sure it's a ton of fine print and possible hassle, but might pay for a new label maker if you're up for some hassle.

Folks have been asking me about just how much gaming material you can get in one of these game boxes, so I made another, quick video: http://youtu.be/Ra-2ApklHq4

There are a few very large orders I still have to ship. I may ship them Fed Ex instead of USPS. Working that out today. If your order is a small one (less than 3 boxes) email me your name and paypal email and I will see what happened: [email protected]

Got a mailing notification as well.
Really looking forward to seeing the boxes arrive.

It will be fun going through my stuff trying to decide what/who gets a new storage home out of my collection.

As an aside: I kind of wish a label system had been added.
Something wherein a collector could list the contents of the boxes on a small piece of paper (or card) and place that inside a small plastic view pocket.
After all, the only reason for these boxes to exist is for use as storage for your RPG stuff (or something else).
If you only have one box maybe that wont be a problem.
But if you have a bunch of them (as I am sure some of you will) how would you keep all of them and the contents of each box sorted?
Anyone have ideas on how to do this without risking damage to the box(es)?
I have a label maker, but fear the sticky will affect the box finish; perhaps even tear it at some point if left on for a long time.

Jason Vey (who also knows a thing or two about boxes) has posted a review of BHP's Old-School Game Boxes (both the Erol Otus & Pete Mullen covers).

His only complaint? "The fact that you can put so much into them."

I'll take that kind of constructive criticism. :)

You can read his review here:  http://wastedlandsfantasy.blogspot.com/ ... boxes.html

Hey Keith, I have an order for a Delving Deeper RPG Boxed Set from November 15, 2011, but no orders under those emails for an Old-School Game Box.

I received my boxes today and they look good. The colors on the Mullen box seems a bit dark overall, but since it was free I can't complain.

Although I can't prove it because the posts have been edited or deleted, I could swear there was some talk about there being some "extras" included inside the boxes when they were first announced. I remember people questioning the high price of an empty box and the response being something like "I never said they would be empty".

I appreciate the free Mullen box but I thought that was to compensate for the long delay in shipping. I hope that did not take the place of any other "extras".

Does anyone else recall this?
