From memory, Don Lowry ran a hobby store back in the late sixties/early seventies. He also had a mail order business, and his own company (Guidon Games) designing and producing games. He put out a newsletter for a bit, then took over the publishing of Panzerfaust magazine (and later on, Campaign).

Most of the Guidon business was wargaming stuff, and Gary started to contribute articles to Panzerfaust, and after a while became the Miniatures Editor. He also designed a few games, such as Dunkirk and Alexander, and helped with Tractics. When the mail order side started to get busy, Don took on some help - Tom Wham and Pete Rice. Tom had written some stuff with Don that was published under Guidon (Ironclad for example).

Next step was Don moving the business to Maine, with Tom and Pete going along. About this time Gary got started with TSR, and stopped contributing to Panzerfaust. Then sometime in the mid seventies Don moved again - this time to California. He kept the publishing side of things and the mail order, but sold the hobby shop to Pete who stayed in Maine. Tom left Guidon at about this point, and I imagine Gary offered him a job at TSR, which at that time was expanding exponentially.

I have a run of Panzerfaust and Campaign from issue 54 up to 110, and most of the story I know I gleaned from the editorials. It's been a while since I've read them, but I think thats the basics.

Sure thing - all that was off the top of my head, and I haven't looked at it for a while. I'll dig out my old Panzerfausts and skim through them, and send you any info I can find on Gary and Tom.

Actually, the old Campaign mags from the late seventies are a good source of info on available products. As Don ran a mail order business, in the middle of each issue was a four page catalogue of products available. When I was looking for info on that Wee Warriors Banners of Chaos sheet for example, I looked back through some Campaigns and there it was, listed with other WW products such as Character Archaic, The Village, Dwarven Glory, POVQ and others.

I know really nothing about this item, but early Guidon made it interesting. Most interesting perhaps is the name "Wham" written on the cover....hmmm....Tom Wham? It would make sense if G.G. and Tom knew each other in 1972...I would guess yes...anyone know?

Alas, no provenance, just "I won this and several other magazines from a local hobby store in a suburb located on the Northwest side of Chicago" from the seller.

I might also note that if I DID in the future offer a price to a seller, I would not try to pork them. I'd offer what I felt the item was worth. I'm a collector, I only sell items that have had no trade offers.
