While I was looking over my old Alarums & Excursions I came across another old Fanzine from the 70's called

The Fantorgn Scrolls

Image

This one is issue #13 and I have #13 - 23.  The vary is size from 4 to around 12 pages in length.  (I electronically scribbled out the original name and address on the cover)

It is a play by mail thing but also has fan articles, stories, rules variants and musings about D&D and other stuff.  Pretty old stuff and very cool to read.  This kind of stuff is getting me pretty stoked for Noth Texas Next month :)

Pretty obscure stuff :)

Cool!  When was it produced, Jeff?

Your newsletter got me thinking that it might be interesting to create a timeline of the various newsletters and magazines, to see which were earliest/etc. relative to one another, as well as how D&D hopped from (presumably) its early wargaming/dippy roots into various D&D-dedicated newsletters, etc.

Indeed!  I asked Doug about whether he was going to have any glass cabinets @ NTX that we could bring some fun rarities to the show, in order to show them off and showcase them (literally, I suppose :D ) for one another's ogling, interest, research, obsessions, etc.  Alas, he won't have any display cases this year, though.

i tried that at gencon a few years ago. i brought my nm 1st pr brown box, an author copy of inverness and a few other things to display in one of the cases. unfortunately even with signage, there was confusion over my displayed items and all of the other items (that were actually being displayed for looking at before they were sold).

by the way, very cool that you have these Jeff. fantorgn has got to be one of the worst titles in gaming history. someone here has probably already made a list, but glory hole dwarven mine & realm of yolmi leap to mind.

But try finding a copy to review.  I have only ever seen 1 copy of this - which is in good hands ;)
