I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Just picked these up. Never had an issue in hand and these seemed to be at a great price. Did I get a good deal? Am I going to be happy with my purchase? I am not just a collector, but a regular gamer, so I hope to find them useful. Thanks!

Oh for sure a good price, figure $15-$30 each at auction depending on location & shipping... all my copies came from the UK & shipping was bit more costly.

I quite like this zine, they date from 1978 or so, very old school in their goodness

Just picked this up. Noble Knight has a copy for sale for $45. I already have a used copy that just has some scuffing and fading on the front cover, which is now for sale. Make me an offer!

So this find was actually 2 finds over the last month.

I bought a lot of D&D books from a local guy on Craigslist and found the Dungeon Floor Modules in that lot. When I saw the made for Kabal on the package I did some looking since I had not heard of this game before and eventually decided it would be an interesting addition to my collection.

So after some research and searching I picked up the Kabal box set (just arrived today). Second edition set, and other than the slight box damage it appears unused. Pad of character sheets has 2 loose, but rest still good. And all the books are signed as well by Ernest Hams. Not sure if that was something he did for all sets (Assuming this was a fairly low volume print) or not. Did not get any history on that.

Still an interesting and more obscure game to add to the collection, not sure I will ever try playing it, but never know.

After 3 decades of searching, finally scored a Jati.
Have seen a dozen in that time but always 600-900 $US.
Finally got a scruffy one in my price range. ;>

So Frank, did you pick up the 1965 version, or 1966 (so that we can keep a lookout for the other one for you)?

I love the cover art. The couple look as if they are sitting in the oriental wing of the British Museum looking at color swatches. "What do you think of doing the west wing in teal this year my dear?"

Damn... The cover art is SOOOOO 1960's!
If I come across something like this in my delves to used game shops, I'll give a shout.

The '66 ('65 on front, '66 on back). Of course. And scruffy. But at least I have one, finally. Now I can try playing it.

A couple of boardgame acquisitions from Half-Price Books that have at least a little relevance to the evolution of RPGs:

Phalanx | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
A simplified skirmish wargame, & an example of how the hobby was becoming popularized in 1964. Some typical wargaming rules have been incorporated into the geometry of the board & pieces, while the cardboard counters are marked like wargaming chits.

Roll-a-Role | Board Game | BoardGameGeek
Not exactly an RPG in the fantasy-wargaming sense, but a psychological game meant to play out real-life situations. The copy I found is the Special Christian Edition, with scenarios like what to do if your Christian youth group has gone to see an X-rated movie. (Seems like introducing the concept of fantasy role-play to a group of hormonal teenagers who've just seen a porn flick would only exacerbate the problem, but I suppose these people knew what they were doing.) Although I haven't read it thoroughly yet, this 1976 game appears to take a number of cues from the emerging D&D phenomenon, such as character classes and group play similar to an adventuring party.

Nice finds. Still looking for those Orphyte books myself. Had a chance to buy them in a huge lot, but since I already had all the other Timemaster stuff, it just wasn't worth the asking price to just get those,....in hindsight I probably should have done it...sigh.
