Did any of you that went to GenCon get to do the TrueDungeon thing?
Sounds like a lot of fun!

The write up in KODT gives a good sense of what it's like :

Talk about prep-time! What did it take to get that ready?

That's serious live action role-play.

Some of my regulars did that and want to recreate it or something like it  for a local con.  We'll see if we can get it to go off.

Sounds like fun.

But I thought it was more like $20 for 1 hr, not $10 for 2
:?:

Is the article right?

I was very skeptical about this thing - just from reading the posts and checking out the first link via nev. However, the KofDT article was very good.

I am, if anyone hasn't figured this out from previous posts, not a big fan of the LARP. However, I have to admit this thing does sound like fun. I think it is a huge misnomer to call it a LARP game.

First of all, there does not seem to be much or any role playing involved. Which is a huge plus in my book. If you want to pretend to be a female, elf bard named Trixie, join your local theatre group. Something about LARP crosses a line between playing a game and some serious personal issues. Be that as it may, this True Dungeon is more like laser tag.

The game appears to challenge your playing ability - not how well you role play. Although, the tasks you must perform to accomplish your character's abilities seem rather ... well... strange. Your success rate has everthing to do with how well you can adjust to a task that you get 15 minutes to learn or practice, rather than the years your "character" has trained in those areas of study, i.e. lockpicking. Regardless, I do not want to nit pick the thing. They will surely adjust and expand this game as time goes on.

The price seems about right ($20?). Two and a half hours of entertainment isn't much cheaper in most instances. A movie with popcorn and a coke is $20. Batting cages, ice time, etc cost even more.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

It's roughly as much of a misnomer as calling 3.0/3.5/d20/video games "role playing"...This is basically "3rd Edition LARP" :P
What's nice about this is they remove any pretense of role-playing.

Its fun to do once!  I did it but really wished we could chose our own party!

Games can get you through times of no money but money can not get you through times of no games!!
