I really like this small RPG and I got (dirty cheap!  8)  a copy of the first edition. But I wonder: is this truly a first edition? Is there a way to recognize the various possibile editions of Toon, besides the De Luxe mammoth sized edition? Thanks.

SJG has been pretty good about using standard publishing notation for printings of books (found on the copyright page - the number line 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 where the lowest number present is the printing, so that example would be a second print).  I'm not sure if they've always had that practice though.  For my Toon material, I actually preferred the thick Deluxe edition - just looks better on the shelf with the later books.

There is no 123456 etc in the book. Does it mean it's a first print?

I'm really not a Steve Jackson Games expert (Toon and a couple GURPS books, that's it)...  All I could say for certain is that it's in the same category as everything else we discuss here which doesn't have easy identifying marks.

You might be able to post on forums.sjgames.com and get an answer.  That's all I can think of.

The first edition (1984 version) has this cover:

It has a 1203 book number on the back cover.  I have no idea about the printings of these.  My book also has no indication of the printing; maybe this particular book only had one printing?  Not sure.  I second the idea of checking on the sjgames forums to see if someone there knows.  If you find out, let us all know, please!  :D
