actually about fifteen years ago I was an exchange student in Kansas (I am getting old) which apart from being a bit of a culture shock, gave me the opportunity to drive around a bit in the US.  I do seem to remember getting a discount for cash - oh and also credit cards were all processed with that slidey thing rather than electronically so you could go WAY over your limit...[/i]

The reason they did that is to cover the surcharges from the credit card processing companies.  When I had my business, I was being charged 1% for Visa & MC, 2.5% for American Express and 4% for Discover.  Now adays, I'm sure they just pass that on to everyone.
