Hi everyone

I just picked up an instant collection of shrink wrap and mint condition items from a long time collector I met in person, who pointed me to this forum.
Thank you to both him and all of you for this fantastic resource.
I was too busy with homework, too broke and too awkward as a kid to ever actually play D&D, so I picked up Fighting Fantasy instead and 1 early 1980s D&D box I read and dreamt of playing with others. That is it for the sad story :)

Back to the whole thing now as a fairly successful tech entrepreneur, and as an innovator in awe of other innovators, I am determined on putting my hands on the best brown box I can find, as well as other 1st edition material in the best possible condition. D&D, Choose your Own Adventure, and Fighting Fantasy are my realms. I saw the prices. I will place an ad in the classifieds once I have learned a bit more about local norms and etiquette, and get a breather from other immediate priorities.

So again, a big thank you to this community. I look forward to learning and contributing.

Gregory

Yo, I'm back!  I think.

I've lurked for years but life and circumstances are such that I'm getting back into collecting/refining my D&D stuff.

Didn't want to start a whole thread in General so thought I'd post here to give my new login a workout.

Heck the company email I had used to register has been gone for almost 6 years!  lol.

Anyway... I'm going to try to weigh in on General threads.  Slight shift in that I'm going to be shedding some of my collection to more focus on 1st Ed.  For a while I was just collecting EVERYTHING but I've decided I don't care too much about 2nd-5th edition as a collector and just want to build the perfect 1st Ed collection.  Maybe more manageable and more fun!

Whoa.. in a couple of weeks it'll be my 20th anniversary on this board.  Yet, I feel I'm a noob again! :D

I'm not dead yet!

Edit: Wait... No.. not 20th. 19th.  Math.

Hello everybody,

I played AD&D my first three years of HS (83-86)before moving away for my senior year. And that was the end of that adventure. At that time I lived in a very small town and was gifted the Easley cover PH and a small lead figure but that was the extent of my collection. I was just another broke kid dreaming of big adventures outside my small town. I didn’t follow the game at all after that.

Now, 37 or so years later, I’m looking to get back in and I find it’s on its 5th edition. I bought the Art and Arcana book and got up to speed on what happened while I was away. Quite the story.

So as I looked to get back into the fun, I came across this site and it’s been amazing to see the time and effort everyone is putting into it. I’ve started watching eBay now and picking up the things I missed out on in the 80’s. I’m very excited to get back into the hobby and look forward to this adventure.

Welcome Jar15a1!  This is a great place to learn about all kinds of stuff you didn't know you wanted!  D&D has changed in many ways.  While there are some changes I don't like, one major change is that interest in this game has grown.  One consequence of increasing interest is the increase in the cost for many of these collectibles. As you are growing your collection, I recommend you be patient with your purchases.  You can learn about listings which are problematic and sellers who are problematic.  There are fakes out there.  There are items with hard-to-see damage like mold, mildew and cigarette smoke.  This is a great site to learn about things like this which can reduce your collecting frustration.  Glad you've joined this community!   8)
