Let me start by saying, Dwayne, your room is incredible. It was an honor to view it, and one day I hope mine is as impressive. Hats off to you.

With that being said, HELLO fellow gamers, both veteran & beginner.  My name is Angus, 35 years young, and I'm from Houston Texas.

I began playing Dungeons & Dragons with the Red Box back in 1985, and have been an avid player & collector since then. My collection has grown and shrunk over the years (as did my internal debate at times about whether or not it was a hobby I wanted to keep in my life), but has since stabilized with my love of the game. Outside of songwriting, D&D is a passion of mine that just won't die... so, I accept it as my 2nd most important hobby. I love D&D 3.5, and will not leave until better comes.

I've done a lot of odd things in my time career-wise. Life has been difficult for me in those endevours, mainly because of sleep apnea. However, I can say for 10 years I managed a gaming store and was an avid Magic The Gathering player. When the store I ran closed down (retirement of the owner), my funds and credit were not enough to save the place. I was jobless for a long period of time, and decided to sell my M:TG collection for funds to help support my family (wife and daughter). In the process, I became a Ebay Specialist, and decided that I could trade the Magic card collection for possibly a more "moveable commodity" on Ebay - D&D. Thanks to Craigslist, I traded my collection for $2000 and a pickup truck longbed of magazine boxes of D&D books & the like, a huge collection accumulated over the years by a young fellow in Humble Texas who wanted to play M:TG and was done with D&D. His loving mother, whom he still lived with, was a worker @ HALF PRICE BOOKS for some 10 years. Thus, how he easily gathered such a huge collection.

As a lover of the older modules, I decided as I cataloged the materials to sell them on Ebay (which took me 3 days nonstop), that I would keep a steady set of the modules within the collection, and part with all else but a few select items. My Ebay seller name was LONE_STAR_VINTAGE, and occasionally I revisit the account to sell odds & ends, but it has been a while. However, I'm sure I'll be back to sell more items there, given my inability to not pick up a collection when I see one being sold (especially when I find it contains at least one module I'm missing personally). Nevertheless, I made quite a deal of money from that first big collection.

My own collection is pristine, focused on modules from Basic and Advanced, with a fine select few from 2nd Edition. Consequently, 2nd Edition is where I spent the most of my years as an earlier gamer. I'm still missing many modules, but my collection is 127 modules strong, which, according to the Acaeum listing, leaves me with a mere 214 (roughly, not counting the DL series as I was never a fan) to finish the deed. I aspire to one day be AN authority (not THE authority, but maybe AN authority) on module collections in Texas. Not too difficult a goal, although not easy either (especially on the pocketbook). Nevertheless, my wife (who also plays D&D) has been patient with my disability, and understands my love of the game.

As time progresses, I'll put a list up of what I'm still looking for and what I have, as well as taking a picture or two of my module collection (backer-boarded & bagged for protection). Any assistance that you good folks can provide me as I continue on my path would be greatly appreciated, and I promise to help whenever and wherever I can in return. I currently DM a group of 5 once every other weekend, 3.5 edition rules, and enjoy every minute of it. My wife and I are working slowly towards finally owning a home, where I have been promised a recording studio & gaming room. She's an Angel, that woman. She truly is the finest and rarest story of them all.

I have been trolling the Acaeum website & forums for some time, but never took the time to set up my email with my service provider, as I had several flash email accounts - so it just wasn't necessary. But to become a member HERE, well you needed one. So, I broke down and setup Microsoft Outlook, and an hour later, here I am. I have spent many a night, reading discussions and thoughts in this forum... and let me just say, it's nice to be a part of it finally, instead of the guy looking in thru the window. Anyhow, that just about sums me up. Thanks for having me.

You have serious competition to be THE authority.

Welcome to the Acaeum Angus!  I'm sure there are a few resellers here that can help fill in any gaps you might have.

You'll probably find may people with similar stories to yours.  Tough to pass up a nice collection at a good price.  Some of us dabble at reselling too.  I am at a stage where I am trimming down my collection again but couldn't pass up a great deal on buying a close down gamestore.

Welcome, Angus_The_Red!

Pathfinder is a good effort at something better than 3.5.

Actually, I like Pathfinder a great deal. It's just that I don't mind playing with 3.5 as it is. So many people have swisscheesed 3.5 for its problems, but for players like myself who have an older mindset about how to play, and are mindful not to exploit a problem, but work around it or alter it, the problems don't make 3.5 worthless. No single Edition is perfect ya know.

I've always felt you don't judge an edition for its shortcomings. You judge it, by its capabilities. If it helps you to enjoy what D&D really is, then you'll be just fine. Combined with how I run a game, and how my players generally play, 3.5 functions without a flaw. (shrug) I guess my games are more about the story, and the moment, and less about finite details.

Strangely enough, I used to rip the front introduction page out of my 2nd Edition PHBs and burn them. I'd get pissed at idea that all of the rules in the PHB, that took hard work to concieve and create, that in the end were sound enough to be printed on b&w and sold the public could be conditional. NEVER! Changing the rules, or altering them, or the idea that they were just a suggestion - pure horse hockey. They HAD to be absolute gospel law. Heh. Foolish boy.

I do however still enjoy a big bowl of Lucky Charms from time to time. WHO'S WITH ME?!?!

I played 3.5 for most of the past decade.  3.5 is a powerful and flexible system with lots of inflexible rules...a couple of which are broken.

Pathfinder is no different, really, except that the 3.5 rules have been fixed and tweaked.

Honey Bunches of Oats w/pecans is the shit.  Once a year though around Halloween I gotta get me a box of Count Chocula or Boo Berry.  Its the only time I get to have those yummy flavored fake marshmallows.

Hello. My name is Nate. I'm 41 and have been gaming since 6th grade which was 1980 (Dungeons & Dragons red box). I didn't really start actually "collecting" games until about 10 or 12 years ago. I'd have to say that one of my most jealously guarded items is a Dungeons & Dragons 5th printing white box set. It's good to be among other collectors.
