Any opinions on defaced (autographed ;> ) Chainmail, 1st or 2nd?
Gygax and/or Perren?

Autographs are IMO almost never defacing....
The only time I can think of that is when someone signs who had nothing to do with that specific collectable...

Even so, I have mixed feelings on autographs, most times I really like them and other times id rather own the item clean.
For instance; owning a 1st edition Chainmail I would not seek out an autograph on that item.
Would prefer that autograph on another collectable.
If I purchased the item with the autograph already in place I would be happy with it.

As you know from all your experience, some fans actively search for such things at conventions and such.
How many want your autograph on level 4-5 rarities?

I have no doubt the value of a 1st/2nd edition of chainmail would up with either autograph.
If one book has both?
YIKES!
Perhaps doubling the value (based on other condition scale)?

Maybe it is the vintage coffee stains that make it so valuable.

Seller says they are in mint condition. Not only can you see the folds and creases on the pictures, but one has all the pieces punched out and in a little baggie!! Nobody seems to know that virtually nothing is in mint condition. It's just a made up word lol.

That being said, $550 for the lot wouldn't be too bad if they were actually in NM condition.

Seller forgot to add "average condition for a GW paperback". :)

(Seriously though, nice copies are very, very scarce: just the lack of a listing here that's keeping the price of their MM & PHB down while the GW accessories race ahead ;))

It means that the previous owner left a half-eaten peppermint candy stuck to the cover.

Look at the bidding...

.. the winner got pushed up by a 1-bid account...

Where's BClarkie when something like this happens...

Not so much a silly price, but I couldn't find the worst spelling in an eBay title thread...

This is pretty ballsy, considering there is another two copies up for a few hundred dollars less:

One of these was in the collectors session Friday night at GenCon. Frank talked it up and it ended up selling for $50.

Available now from Die Cast Games: Night of the Black Swords by Allen Hammack (Author of C2-The Ghost Tower of Inverness) with artwork by Jeff Easley and Diesel.
