Looks like a 1st print (going by 1977 date) softcover UK Monster Manual.
It's in pretty bad shape but at a price of 6p I'm not complaining!

Arrived this morning.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 3174607528

Monster Manual 1st print
Players Handbook 1st print (orange flyleaf)
Dungeon Masters Guide 3rd print

Not too bad a price.  And I didn't have the 1st print of the MM.

I finally found my hidden treasure store  . They offer store credit to people who want to get rid of their 1st and 2nd edition stuff to convert over to 3rd edition. They put the old stuff on a shelf in an obscure part of the store and there it sits  . I can go in and buy in bulk at a very good price, usually $2-3 an item, $1 for mags, instead of the store marked price. Here is a list of the latest haul that I got for $48, all are complete and VG-M:

GAZ1         Grand Duchy of Karameikos
GAZ4         Kingdom of Ierendi
GAZ5         Elves of Alfheim
GAZ6         Dwarves of Rockhome
B1-9         In Search of Adventure
B11         King's Festival
B12          Queen's Harvest
I3-5         Desert of Desolation
I10         Ravenloft II: House on Gryphon Hill
I11         Needle
I12         Egg of the Phoenix
X12         Skarda's Mirror
N4         Treasure Hunt
N5         Under Illefarn
H2         Mines of Bloodstone
M5         Talons of Night
WGA1         Falcon's Revenge

They have quit a few Judges Guild items as well, a couple in shrinkwrap too. Dragon mags from the high 40's and up, GURPS and RIFTS which are for the most part in mint condition. Anybody need something 8)

I happened to be making the rounds of some of the local used bookstores today, when I spotted some a DMG atop a pile in the "to be bought" table.  So, I ask the buying clerk what's up with the stuff, and he said that they were in process, and I couldn't look at anything.

The store ended up buying about 10-15 books, none of which interested me; they weren't buying a lot more, however, and one of the piles had a GH Gaz on top.  He said I could talk to the woman about the stuff they didn't want outside the store.

So, I introduce myself (we'd both been browsing back in the children's section), and she carries her pile of books out in a plastic storage container so we can discuss them.  We get just outside the door and says "They're yours if you want them---take 'em all."

I happily do so, of course!  When I get home, I find three 2e GH modules I didn't own (and would have preferred to have never had to spend cash on them, they're so bad), as well as several FR modules, a shrinkwrapped Spelljammer 2e MC, two DA modules, and ....

....Wild Things, in EX- condition (NM except for some gunk that may clean off of the lower back left sheet) :D

Nice!

Man.. I love it when used book stores miss something.  It seems they are getting alot smarter about buying and PRICING old D&D stuff.

I think in this case, they only took the books that were in NM condition---although I'm not sure why they passed on the shrink Spelljammer  MC, since they had another one that was shrink in their pile....

Can't believe no one else from here bid on that. We already emailed and asked if he had any other TSR art and the answer was no, otherwise we wouldn't have posted this yet.

Thanks!

I was lucky because a long time ago I actually had bought this one and my mind clicked when I read the description.

It still has the "Kay Bee" price tag of $6.00 on it too.  Flashbacks, flashbacks...

Well the X5 Temple of Death cover art has arrived. It is even better than we hoped because the "Black Plate" overlay is a transparency of the ink drawing with a watercolor painting behind it :D . We originally thought the transparency was like a animation cell type of piece. This is probably the coolest thing we now own(and the best bargain). :D

Lets all hope that more of this art is still out there.

Happy collecting,
BurntCo

8O  Okay, just keep rubbing that salt in...

Not only do I think the X4-5 series are excellent modules (near my favorites), I like Truman art.

I am convinced there must have been a special cloaking device that hid that artwork from my screen...damn it!

But Congrats, again. :D

Hey bbarsh,
Here's the really scary stuff. That auction went through a complete 7 day cycle with a starting bid of $50 and a Buy-It-Now for $150 with no takers 8O . The seller relisted with a lower starting price and it finally got a bid from someone I've never seen before. When my brother(Shawn) found that auction there was only one minute and thirty-seven seconds left. 8O  He thinks it was just fate.

I noticed a price of $75 written in pencil on the back of the "black plate"/painting. It looks like the seller may have taken a loss on this one.

Peace,
Devon

... 8O ...

Like Spike Lee said in those great commercials...it's gotta be the shoes...

And some people don't believe in Karma...

Again, congrats. It is a wonderful item and a real piece of history. Even though I am not an art-guy, that painting is really a part of TSR history and lore, much more so than our mint copies of B2!

Now I am off to scan for my steal of the century.... :D
