Yeah, I've noticed his insane bid amounts. My hope sunk when I saw he'd placed a bit, though it was amusing (if not horrifying) to watch the bids rise that much in the last few minutes. One of my eBay friends refers to him as "the guy that won the lottery", and I'm starting to think that must be true.  :P He's thwarted me on many a Planescape mini auction. Grarr. (But I'm glad he wasn't around during the biggest part of my collecting!)

Well, maybe that auction will inspire some others to post some of that mini, and the prices will drop. (Unless fisher needs another pack... *insert theme from Jaws*)

Waterdeep? Never heard of it.

I think this wins the oscar for "most informative description ever" - especially related to the amount of money requested!

Yea, I saw that last night too. Check out some of his other auctions, they are equally descriptive. Why even bother to put anything at all? I think my next round of auctions will simply say "stuff" with a $1000.00 opening bid, and "pay for it" in the payment section. What a feckin moron.

Same seller, different angle:

This one here ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 80187&rd=1

... is a re-list. I came across the original listing today while doing some research. Nothing like a $5 BIN for a GDQ1-7, huh?

Now I know I was out of the loop for nearly half a year...but I do not recall Dragon #1 going this high. I seem to remember them dwelling in the mid $200 range. I do think $300s is ok...but is this a pattern?

<quiltmom> just didn't want to be beat by that other seller and had just turned down Mike's better copy at a lower price.
Hence my comment 'bout having to snipe her for any early Dragons. Has been rather difficult to get a hold of those since she turned up.

Reserves were set high on those auctions, too; worked well for #1, but not #4 ($47 for a creased water-damaged copy, still hasn't hit reserve, with two hours to go).

I had this on my watch list, then was surprised to see it take off to the final sale amount.

Is this quiltmom familiar to anyone...

Seems a bit odd for dragons that have gone for around 20-30 now going for 40+???

Immortal Rules Box sets are certainly trending upwards over the last 3 or 4 months for some reason. :? I would not be suprised to see that if it jumped up over $50.00.

Very familiar (albeit not personally), hence my message at the end of
Interesting Items Formerly on eBay • Page 62 • Collecting General •  The Acaeum
re. that auction which just finished.

Unfortunately, someone "challenged" her and that was game over, in this case.

That's the <quiltmom> effect for you. Admittedly not single-handed; but a large factor, I reckon.

Numbers in the 20s have since been almost impossible to get a hold of, for "sensible money", hence my incredulity at comments that they're still readily available at $1 each! :P
As for the earlier issues (even the "easy" #7-12 range)...

I have just recently decided to put together a Dragon collection. That is where my sudden interest comes in to play.

Correction, I made a fluke, lucky purchase of about 150+ issues last fall (via ebay): numbers 54-210 (or so) complete run. I got the whole thing for around $75. The kicker was that they are all in near mint condition - don't look to have been touched for the most part. (I figured they were the standard used issues and I wanted them for reading material and nostalgia - not for a collection per se...

Anyway, when they showed up in such nice shape, I said, what the hell, might as well grab the pre #54 issues and call it a day, or maybe grab through to #250 for an even count. Then duty called and no ebay for me until just recently.

Now I come back and shit...pre #54 are nuts! I was prepared to drop around $400-500 to finish up...I guess that play is on its way out the window...

Damn, now I am curious. I was going to eBay my basically complete run, but it might be better to break them up, so people needing to fill in holes can do so.

In this case, the bidder is determined to collect early Dragon magaznes regardless of the price.  QM has bought many early issues from me and (I feel) paid premium price, or at least the prices I wanted.
Funny thing is I offered her my copy of Dragon #1 a month ago for $285, but she felt it was too high. However, it was in better shape than the one that she just bought for $325.  I think this has something to do with the fact that I finally sold that copy out of my ebay store (for $255, I discounted it for the wife of a American soldier, I hope the buyer wasn't just feeding me a line....)...it was being watched by a few people, maybe Quiltmom was one and decided after mine sold to jump on that other copy while she could....
Funny thing is, I just put my OTHER copy for sale, and it's MUCH nicer than the one she just bought.  It's out there for $285, any investors, err, takers????? :D

I dont' know if it's the Quiltmom effect, but prices on older Dragons and SRs seemsto be rising lately. All these were in various conditions, for the most part Very Good/Excellent (above average) shape. My recent early Dragon sales (since April):

Strategic Review:
#3---$30
#4---$30
#7---$30

Dragon #1---$255
Dragon #2---$100
Dragon #2---$30 (damaged)
Dragon #3---$100
Dragon #6 (x2)---$35 each
Dragon #7---$30
Dragon #8---$30

Those prices in Toymom's auction don't look very bad now, do they???? It remains to be seen if this is a legit trend or just the effect of 2-3 people wanting to finish up their collections with deep pockets fighting it out. Nevertheless should be interesting to see what Toymom gets for the #1-#8 she is auctioning right now...

I just sold #15 for $5.50:

cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&a ... T&rd=1
I'm sure it would have gone for more had the condition been better.  However, it went to a well-known reseller, so I'm certain these are going up in value.  I just wanted the thing out of my house, so I was happy to take the $5.50 and run.

Hey, Deimos! :)
I was going to mention you yesterday as being one of the few people who hadn't "benefited", but then I noticed the buyer and some of your other auction prices from that same bundle and decided that kinda evened out, all told.
Yeah, certainly not the highest $ though...
