I agree about the use of the 'SUPER RARE!!!' adjective for ordinary items... the way I look at it, if you're selling a 'super rare' item then it will speak for itself, it won't need any hyperbole.

$138 for Dragon #1 isn't a bad price... I was a keen collector of Dragons last year and it seemed to me that #1 generally went for around $150, with a few going in excess of $200.

Regards

Mike

Dragon Mag #1 for $138 in a bit off condition sounds like a fair price to me.  $200 for a clean, very good copy sounds reasonable as well.
Just my two coppers...

is it just me, or is the starting price a bit much, even for what they're selling?

I suspect a typo... adding a '0' at the end.  His other listings are a tad high for starting prices, but nothing like that.  $25.00 for a Cthulu & Elric Demigods book isn't unreasonable.

I just bought one for $25.00 myself.

Or.. if he sells it, may it become the new standard for this book because I have a few! :)

The whole set usually sells for £20-£30 in the UK.  Mine cost me £22.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this UK bidder could probably pick up the whole boxed set for this price AND pay for shipping from the USA.

I will have to add this to my watched items just to see how painful it's going to be.

I did the same thing.  Kind of like a car wreck, you just can't look away  :)

There's two complete sets currently going;  the first has 4 days left with a current bid of $26.00 (shipping is $5.00, but it's US only).  The second is a UK auction with 4 days left, it's currently at 21.00 GBP, the reserve is met, AND it comes with an extra copy of module G1.   But guess who the high bidder is on that one!!

Déjà vu (sort of).  I outbid cougarrinard when I won mine.

Unfortunately, Mr. Whitfield (the eBay reseller cougarrinard) dictates the prices for certain items that he chooses. Among them is not only the Silver Anniversary Collector's Box, but the R- and RPGA-series, the Fighting Wheel, H1 and more. The items are all rare and it doesn't take that much money to control the market. Of course, paying 99$ for a Silver Anniv. box doesn't help. Whitfield has his customers and without these customers, prices won't change. As long as Whitfield is around, we must adjust the values for these to the point where he wants them.[/i]

FYI for those competing, Cougarrinard likes to control the prices of the following module series:  DA, H, R, RPGA, and the supermodules.  These can sometimes be easier to trade for, or to bid on in person (US conventions and such).

I confess to the buying of goods from cougarrinard.  In my defence I was eBay young and reckless.  Impatient to fill the gaps in my collection, I hastily bought VGC and NM.  Only to find abused modules with photocopied maps and pages delivered by the postman.  Then kidding myself it was some evil conspiracy by the Post Master General to defame the honourable Sir DW.

I also admit to the heinous crime of being the high bidder (admittedly by default) on the infamous email auction of The Misty Isles, Palace of the Vampire Queen and The Dwarven Glory photocopies.  Althought they did come with original staples  .  Thats not funny is it?!? Sorry.

After being the winning bidder on a couple of bargain auctions which then mysteriously went missing in the post, only to see them relisted the following week, I renounce cougarrinard.

Never again shall I pay for such overpriced sh1t.

Forgive me Acaeum, I repent.

I bought from him once...and only once. A real shady character.

Since I am in this thread, but would someone explain this one to me:

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& ... gory=44113

I'm sorry, WHAT!?!?!?!

"pitttbulll" is one of the reasons why items like this have been going for so much lately.  Whomever this is doesn't care how much they pay for D&D items, especially if they are in SW.  Check out what this individual has been buying, or attempting to buy.  Multiple copies too - (3) Silver anniversary sets recently!!!

Welcome to eBay

Check out this one too:

Or this one:

Unbelievable...
