Considering I know people who regularly find copies in bargain bins for $5, and that anybody with the savvy can download a free (alas, not legal) copy off IRC, Kazaa, or BitTorrent), I'd have to say that person is a moron.

In the nearby realm of seller optimism, I vote for this one:

Hitahomer always lists unbelievably high.  A very optimistic seller with a very appropriate username as hitahomer always swings for the fences.

How about this one the "complete" set of Basic modules :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=44112

$750 seems *way* overpriced - it doesn't even include the Gazetteers.

H1 Bloodstone Pass -- Dungeons & Dragons AD&D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2543

10 day auction with an opening bid of $149.95 and a Buy It Now of $250.00.  Not in the shrink, but unpunched.

"Here is your chance to get one of the rarest of all Dungeons & Dragons modules"  I wouldn't call this the rarest D&D module  :?

And someone bought it as well. I almost feel sorry for them.

I think the auction that Malcom posted is actually a typo made when the seller was inputting the starting bid. He has about 10 other 3 issue lots of Dragon mags that start at £2.50 (as opposed to £52.50).

Happy thoughts,
PD

Never cease to amaze me how much is paid for the Cthulhu Deites & Demigods
especially when there are about at least 10 sold each week.
This one's up to $70 and it's still got 14 hours to go :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=44112

The observation that prices on ebay get silly in January seems to be holding true.

$138 is a little high but not outrageous for The Dragon #1.

The Acaeum price guide has it valued at $125 for VG condition.

You're spot on when it comes to Deities though.  It is soooo common I can't believe it's that collectable either.   I think it's crazy for anybody to pay over $25 for it in mint condition.

Ah, you are right. I was influenced by seeing an auction where 1 and 2
combined went for $142 :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2545

But I see another copy of #1 went for over $200! :

'78 D&D The Dungeoneer~Judges Guild*A+ RARE*
ULTRA RARE!! ONLY ONE EVER SEEN!!MUST HAVE!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3170503101

This looks fun... but $450.86?  Is he joking?

On the other hand, it got me to look at the item.  Maybe I should post some of my items with a buy-it-now of 100s of dollars to get attention.

I might be willing to pay 10 bucks (I don't have this) but not 450!  I'll take two POTVQ's first please. :)

And another note... does it bug many of you guys that these items are getting auctioned off as 'antique' 'ancient' 'very very old but in excellent condition' when all of these items are younger than you?

8O

I am not antique!  I'm only 37!!

Not only that, it's a compendium of 1-10.
The worst is "rare", as in "D&D Module B1, SUPER RARE!". It's the resellers that usually use that tactic.
