the hybrid (?) set has $1.75 listed in book one.

same is true for warriors of mars

and for the doubters re: book 3 being early - the imprint is the same, the front cover bears the "printed in usa" logo below the inquires text.

a couple of oddities about the book to note - the copyright (c) on the inside front cover bleeds a bit - almost as though there was an issue with the printing.  the printer's imprint also appears to be about 0.25mm smaller in width than in book 2.

Not sure what it means, but to the best of my knowledge, the set conforms to 1st printing/pre-pub excepting the box of course...

Interesting developments overnight.  I had an early one and missed all this.

As you saw I was relaying my information to the forum.  But it was definitely not me who grassed on you to eBay.  That's low in my book.  I personally wouldn't end an auction myself.  Well, not unless it was a ridiculous offer.  But if you're happy to take a price for an item then it's your item to sell.

OK some people might argue that you should relist it with a BIN.  But I say Fcuk em.  eBay get enough money as it is.

Good luck with the relists.  I will certainly be bidding/sniping.

Please check out your book 3:

1) is the inside of your cover textured or plain?  The books from 4th print (buff interior) I have reviewed all have a smooth interior texture - if these off book 3's were printed at the same time, would it not stand to reason that the cover mateial would be the same?  I reviewed all the book in my collection and none have the same cover material as my book 3.  Is this the same for your colletion?

2) how far apart are the staples?

2a) How many staples?

2b) How thick is the wire?

3) please measure the width of the imprint on the back cover and compare to the size of the imprint on the back cover of your first print book 2.  are they the same?

4) evaluate the (c) symbol on the inside cover of your book 3 - does the outside of the symbol bleed onto the inside?

I am having a hard time find ANY other books than the 1 you have and the 1 I have that conform to these points (imprint/size/cover type/staple convention/imprint size).  I also cannot find any reference to book 1 or 2 that match these oddities.  I am tracking down a trade publication printed by Graphic from the same time frame as pre-publication/first print to see if staple convention and cover material is the same.

I figure by the time anyone reads this the auction will be over, but it kind of irritates me that a certain reseller inflated the freakin price of this lot EVEN THOUGH THE SELLER STATES HE SHIPS TO THE US ONLY.

Thats pretty unfair to the people legitamately allowed to bid on it.

(and no I wasnt going to bid on it anyhow)

Ok so what is in this lot that the same reseller noted in my previous post felt was worth shooting the auction to $500+ dollars?

No idea on that one.  The previous post---cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& ... gory=44112---had an R1 in it, but I have no idea what looked that good about the $500+ auction, unless someone was a really really big fan of Lords of Creation....

Seems to be if you run around eBay looking for items to buy then resell with some sort of markup then large lots like this would be attractive.  Of course to the rest of us who look for items to fill in the gaps (such as an R1) then they hold no absolutely interest.  It is mildly interesting to watch items prices being driven up this way.  Cheers M.

I think it's ludicrous, but maybe someone else doesn't:

I do kinda wonder why there isn't a BIN, though.

Perhaps she thinks the bidding will get up to $50 or so. Considering the rash of noobie purchases, could be.
