Wow!  That's pretty steep.  I bought the same poster on eBay a couple years back for only $10 or so.  Timing is everything I guess...

I think this went for a bit of a bargain :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3172720618

My question is, what is that "Painting Fantasy Miniatures - An Introductory Guide" - didn't turn up in any google searches!

Considering the amount John paid, I'm not sure whether I should have bid higher or not on these woodgrains. What do you guys think? Not having the box feels like a big minus to me.

It is a 78 page digest size book published by Morningstar Publishing Co.. Copyright is October 1979 and was written by C.A. Hundertmark and Marjorie Jannotta w/ illustrations by Lois Gronseth. Plenty of info on preparing/painting miniatures but the art is fairly crude. I would say it is somewhat rare as I have seen only two up for auction and they were in lots with other D&D items.

Hope this helps,
Burnt

I believe the auction I linked is the only one that actually originated from a woodgrain set so I would say you shouldn't have bid more on the others.  (No price at the bottom of the other booklets is the giveaway that they came from white box sets)

Chromaticknight did very well on the above auction though.

Thanks for pointing out the missing price myalbinogorilla.  I was about ready to cry into my books

Anyway, I've got my hands on them now.  And they are all 3rd printings.  Apart from some staple rust they are in excellent condition.  Especially as they haven't had the benefit of the protection of the box.  The seller said that he had thrown it out years ago.  So, I didn't mention what the box would have done to the price.  I can be such a nice guy!

Not having the box seemed like a very big minus to me.  But beggars can't be choosers.  I was desperate to get this set and they don't come up very often at a price I would be happy to pay.  And I also got 4 supplements.

I figured that I could sell on the 4 supplements in the UK at about £15-20 each.  Which would mean getting the woograinless set just about free due to the excellent exchange rate.  Greyhawk is a 2nd print.  But the others are 1st prints.  Any ideas if there is a premium paid on 1st/early printings?

However, it turns out that Greyhawk is missing it's centre pages.  So, that makes it about worthless?  Maybe £5 if I'm lucky.  I could throw in a photocopy of the pages.  I've seen the debate and I don't see this as copyright abuse.

I informed the seller and maybe he will offer a partial refund.  But I would have still bid this amount if I'd know about the missing pages.
