This is great news for sellers! :)

However the over/under on how long its going to Ebay to invalidate it as viable use as a payment option is 7 days...

You are probably right. My initial thoughts were 3 days, but I figured it would take at least a few days for them to put together a BOD meeting to sort it out.  I mean it is summer and all and all the higher ups are on thier 4 week vacations...

Taking a look through the "Acceptable Payments" blather, I see that technically it's probably already invalidated by the "Finally, sellers may not request payment through online payment methods not specifically permitted in this policy." clause.

I suppose, though, the question is how long it takes to end up on the list of payment methods that are explicitly prohibited.

(Interestingly enough, eBay explicitly states that, on eBay.ca, Canadian Tire Money is an acceptable form of payment if the seller agrees to it. )

I am going to start listing my auctions with "Contact me for a list of acceptable payment options" and offer to accept any form of payment that is reasonable, including Amazon. Fuck the eGay/GayPal monopoly. I cannot believe they haven't been sued for that. It's almost exactly what MicroSuck tried to do, and they got nailed.

If I was EBay, and I am not advocating they do this, but they are going to harp long and strong about how only purchases with their system is protected, insured, whatever. They are going to come down hard on any seller or buyer who complains they used the Amazon system and didn't get their money/stuff.

Wait a minute!!!!  Didn't Cougie offer some of you payment or try to pay you through the new Amazon payment system?   Yeah, that's the ticket!  We better report this to EBay right away!

Actually, the decision was reversed on economic grounds and b/c the judge was openly biased against free-markets..

Besides, I wouldn't look to government to help consumers out. After all, it was government meddling that got Paypal taken over by eBay in the first place..

I LOVED X-Com...in fact, I was pretty pissed when they merged with PayPal. In fact, I think I still have my old X-Com ATM withdrawal card somewhere around here...

man, i'm far to lazy to work out what all that means.
Though, I like fast payment methods. Sites that have paypal at checkout = Dangerous.. I dont have to go find my card, I just click and stuff is mine.. mwahahahahahahaahah!

I like that, though it does make me overspend.
More sites need to implement that memory, I hate having to find my card.

well, it'll be interesting to see what they do and what makes it any different. So yeah...

Does anyone remember when Paypal and X.com were paying YOU to sign up, AND giving you a cash back for everyone you signed up?  and then a kickback for every purchase you made?  Damn.

Yeah, I do...It figures that several of the guys I got to sign up back in the X-Com days are now eBay powersellers and I'm still struggling along...
