Atlas posted a preview @ http://www.genconhistory.com/images/40YearsPREVIEW.pdf and the product info is @ http://www.atlas-games.com/product_tables/AG2702.php and on Amazon @ http://www.amazon.com/Years-Gen-Con-Rob ... 06&sr=11-1

The book looks good.  I was originally planning to buy it from Amazon to save the $10, but I may buy it at the show to have folks sign it; we'll see :D

The Amazon listing for for pre-orders.  Although it could be available at the show, it looks like the authors will cover GenCon XL and then issue the book.

Based on my emails with John Nephew, it sounded like it was going to be available at the show, unless they're planning two slightly-different editions??

From a marketing/sales perspective, it'd make good sense to have "40 Years of Gen Con" available at Gen Con 40.

Gary's 1967 event is considered Gen Con 0 (see the preview pdf), so the book does cover at least 40 Gen Cons (#s 0-39 in years 1967-2006). Plus, they may have a preview of this year's scheduled events (e.g., Gary's  appearance).

I like the format and layout of the content in the preview pdf. Anecdotal and very interesting. Not a big fan of the cover - the dragon looks too 3E (too many spikes and stray bits of armor). But it's not too bad.

When purchasing tickets to GenCon you were given the option of buying a copy. They are supposed to be available for pick up at the show.

This is a book I can't wait to see. Albeit I don't go to Gen Con, I have a friend  going there (well, almost sure...) on business (for real   :P ) and I will ask to buy me some copies - one for keeping and the other ones to sell

I am also really looking forward to this book, hopefully it'll live up to my expectations (which are rather high, at the moment, given the publisher and the level of involvement of the old guard).

Nope. The publication date (according to Amazon) is August 16th.  Gencon.com was letting people preorder for pickup at the convention.  (I went the latter route.)
