Yes, but I only looked at the link before I even read the full post.  Typically when stuff gets put here, its up for anyone who wants it. By the time I realized that he wanted it himself, I had already BINed it. Again though I would be more than happy to ask the seller to relist it as its not that big of a deal to me.

If I had seen your post the most you would have got would have been digital pics of me with the items after they arrived at my house.  For example; "me at the door, thanking the postman", "me, grinning at the lovely package", "me, carefully opening the box", "delight at the contents" etc etc...  

More broadly, there has been debate here in the past about what this thread is actually for, given that there is an element of (friendly) competition here - oh, as well as group-hugs and collecting solidarity of course   .  Truth is that people will always post about interesting items - so we might as well have a busy thread for such.  Different people have different ideas as to whether to post or not.  My view is that with so many collectors hunting, often daily, most interesting items do actually get spotted, especially if they are not a BIN, but run for five or seven days.  So you might as well put them up for discussion.  That way I have been kindly educated - by various experts here - about all sorts of different items.  

Hmmm, having said that, every now and again, the odd item does slip through...

This thread is for posting interesting eBay items.  Posting a normal auction is waving a flag to the others.  Posting an underpriced BIN is like waving a big red flag while jumping up-and-down and screaming.     Sometimes people let each other have a go at an item, and other times not.  Brian is being nice to you and everyone else in trying to un-BIN it.   If the price had been cheaper, then I would have BINed it for myself, and some of it would be returning to eBay in separate lots.

Being an Acaeum member does not make one a nice guy, an honorable guy, or anything other than a guy who joins the site.  And even if Acaeum members did not bid up the price on an item, someone in the general public likely would.

The Acaeum is open to the public, so anyone can read what's been posted.  The Acaeum Effect (not quite the Slashdot Effect) on prices has been previously noted.

You could use the Appraisal forum or once you get to know who specialises in certain items you could ask via PM. Or use the pricing/ auction guides on the main site and make you own estimate. Or you could do what I do and find out you paid too much after you bought it.
