Back in 1991 or so I did not buy this game when I found it in the Goodwill toy section.

The subject matter scared me.  :(

Seller also has this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ritual-kit- ... dZViewItem

Which is described at:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/9337

I've never heard of these games, but their existence is a real find- the Satanist scare over RPGs is a major part of their history. Society looked at it differently in those days, as something entertaining but not real. The end result is that Avalon Hills 1974 "Ritual Kit" product line appears very bizarre today.

SPI's Demons has a similar spookiness, especially as it involves actual invocations. Space Gamer #28 has cover art promoting it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=017

[The auction has ended, but the picture is still there.] My copy is a bagged mini-game, I didn't even realize there was a boxed version. Is it a regular full-size box, or is that version a mini-game too?

Boxed version is full sized, but cheap and skimpy like a lot of the SPI games at the time that weren't wargames.

According to boardgamegeek, the AH Witchcraft Kit of 1974 had "6 Female & 6 Male Witch Character Cards." Character Cards? Like in an RPG? In 1974? Interesting...

Well, heck. I think I can help with that. Let me make sure, though, as I have lots of boardgames / non-RPGs at my disposal... didn't think anyone here would find that one interesting, though it plays rather fun, in my opinion.

Interesting item. What is the history of that? Which year was it published?

The FAKE Frank might be interested, he is on a shrink kick, I hear.
I've seen this a few times before, but I don't know much about it.

I have one around here somewhere, unshrinked. Let me see if I can dig it up and give some info.

This was done by Jim Dutton's company Entertainment Concepts Inc (ECI) in 1985.  ECI had their own Play by Mail games such as Silverdawn and Star Trek and also released some generic adventures.  Here's a listing of various ECI stuff:

http://tomeoftreasures.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=109

All of them are tough to find.  I would be interested in knowing some of the details about how it got farmed out to another company though instead of in house TSR.
