Just saw this lot from the same seller:

Some really tough to find items but from the description, several of them are incomplete or have writing in them.  There is a first printing of The Book of Mars in there for the few people that are looking for one.  Not that it really matters....I'll bet money that lofenloc or the fantasymuseum win this one.  Oh...and looky there....already one of the above two has just bid on it.

Ok....I know it was discussed earlier.....which one of you invented the time machine?  :P

Looking at the other items, they have quite a few old/original releases and in decent shape too...I can remember playing some of these...and wanting to play others but the allowance only got so far into games

2 early DMG's - one signed - one a 'valued collectible'!

So how would you verify that signature?

If the picture is significant, I would rate it quite better than VG.

Judging by his own grading scale, not Acaeum's, that pic is at least "Fine".

As for the signed one, It looks like a good signature to me. (I have several signed books by him, purchased from him on-line, they are his Lejendary series core rules books).

I have a question about the second listing you linked to regarding the sellers comment......

It was released at the 1979 TSR convention and the small print run immediately sold out, being reprinted in the 1979 revised edition.

First off, it was NOT a TSR convention. (Or was it?)

Secondly; From what I have read, the DMG books taken to a convention did indeed sell out, but the TSR folks did not take all the copies TSR had printed in that first print run to the convention. There were many many boxes of them still in storage which were released after that convention to the general public and hobby shops, etc...

I cannot imaging they sold 40,000 copies of the DMG at that convention................

While I can't comment on the convention stuff, it's worth noting that his other information is at best misleading, given that there were several printings prior to the Revised Edition.  (But everyone knew that, so I'm really just talking for the sake of talking. :) )

It does look like a first printing though.  Well, as well as can be judged from the horrible quality of that photo.  Yeesh.

YUP, several other printings and several recalls as well.
As you said much of this sellers information is at best misleading, though IMO it is simply wrong.

There is no question that is a 1st printing DMG.  Note the logo is on top of the wizard's foot.  That's the easiest indicator.  ;)
