If it's a FIRST PRINTING!, then why would it be a "Revised Edition"?

Well, that is certainly a pet peeve for me.... so I sent the following.  Feel free to comment, edit, clarify and use as will.  If we send something like this to sellers, eventually they will know more about book collecting.

Revised printings by default can not be a first printing of the first edition.  Were it a first printing of another edition, it would be irrelevant since people who collect first printings are generally looking for the first edition.  For the edition to change, revisions must be made.  Printings change every time they reprint due to sales.  So, for instance a first edition may not be worth much if it is a 15th printing of the first edition and a 2cnd edition is seldom collectible if it is the first printing of the second edition.  For a couple of centuries collectors have focused on first printings of first editions.  The exceptions are when the revision contain material that is unique and more important... than the original first edition.  (for example, hypothetically a book of prints might have a second edition with an essay by Salvador Dali about how bad they are... and a print by Dali... that would likely be of much greater interest than the book of bad prints in an earlier printing even the first printing of the first edition.)  Booksellers sometimes use the term first thus to distinguish and call attention to the distinction.

The only problem is by making it potentially easier to understand it becomes incorrect.  This book may be a first printing of a revised edition and that is not usually what they think they have, nor is it what we usually want to collect.
