Just a quick poll to help me break me out of my indecision.  I have been re-acquiring some of the old AD&D 1st edition modules which hold a lot of sentimental value for me, and I can't decide how to best spend my money.  All of the poll answers are on my "wish list", so I'd like them all, but I need to cut myself off at some point or I'll spend hundreds/thousands (this is more of a fiscal discipline thing than that I can't afford them all--I'd just be in trouble with the missus :).  I have already picked up EX1, EX2, S1, S4, UK1, and WG4, all in Fine or VF condition, as these were my "very favoritist".  What should I want most next, and why?

Right now I'm leaning toward getting S3 next, both because it's a single module (cheaper) and it's one of the more unusual AD&D adventures.

Getting S3 also puts you closer to getting the S-series completed.  And then you can buy the S1-4 supermodule.   :D

I'm not necessarily looking to complete the S series.  I always thought White Plume Mountain was a bit goofy, and the 4 modules aren't related like A, L, or U.  I had a nice copy of Realms of Horror at one point, but I really prefer the old-style detached folder modules, not to mention that a bit of the info from S3 (and maybe others) is missing in the "supermodule" release.  My focus is on favorite or unique modules that I once owned and/or played through from '80 - '84, mostly by Gary Gygax.  If I pick up A1, of course I'll get A2-4 also, but S2 is definitely not top priority.  I might fill out the collection later, though.  Thanks,

David

Next acquire? It is not even a collection if you don't have the G and D series and Q1. These are definitive modules!!! :)

When you're right, you're right...  I'm resisting going with those first (or the A series) because there are (at least) 4 modules involved.  Since the editions I owned were G1-2-3, D1-2, D3, Q1, those would be the one's I'd want.  Problem is, I really would like nice copies, so this is gonna run me somewhere between $50 - $80.

It's interesting that you say S2 is goofy, but list EX1-2 as in your top favorites - I would think the EX mods would top many a persons list of "high goofiness".

I voted S3 for the Erol Otus art work.

You've got me there.  I liked EX1/2 mostly because of the Lewis Carroll influence, and when I played through it I was completely taken by surprise.  Good times :).

I do love Erol Otus.  That's a big reason I've picked up S1 and S4 already.

The S series is a must-have.

Hi, it really depends on what you're after.  GDQ is the classic Gygaxian Greyhawk campaign, with the GG/Mentzer T1-4 as well.  WG5 is quality but not a classic IMO.  (Probably because it wasn't there in my first couple of formative years, no real reason for bias.)

But if you like the quirkiness of EX1 and EX2, S3 might appeal to you quite strongly.  No Victorian influence of course but some of the quirky appeal is there.

So my recommendation:
#1 S3
#2 GDQ (in preferred format)
#3 T1-4
#4 WG5
#5 Dunno, maybe U1-U3

sorry but as much as i like most of the mods, the GDQ series is an absolute must for any campaign.

there is so much that you can do with this as a DM, especially in Q1 imo.

I would recommend the Giants series (G1, G2, G3 or G123) and the Drow series (D1, D2, D3 or D1-2, D3), but not Q1, personally.

I would be remiss if I did not recommend Rob Kuntz's new adventure modules, Cairn of the Skeleton King and Tower of Blood (click on the link in my sig). There are also some issues of Dungeon Magazine in which Maure Castle (a.k.a. Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure) is expanded upon - #s 112, 124, and 139 (of course these are in 3e format).

Slave Lords in either format (A1, A2, A3, A4 or the A1-4 supermodule) is railroady.

If you collect even one D or G module you have to collect them all.  If you collect all the D's and G's you have to collect Q1.  I'm pretty sure its a rule.

Never liked the A series.  "Railroady" is a good description.

I originally owned the earlier folder modules, so those are what I'd like to have.  I do remember the A series being "railroady", especially the last one where you lose all of your equipment.  I think it's clear I need to pick up G1-2-3, D1-2, D3, and Q1 ASAP :).  Thanks for the input.

I would not consider the D1-2 combined module to be a substitute for owning both monochrome modules.

They can be gotten for less-than-outrageous prices and I think they are worth it.

Hmmm, well the OP never said he was a collector.

As far as GDQ1-7 is concerned, meh. . . . I owned it years ago and sold it. If one is actually going to use GDQ in play the supermodule is a bit of a pain. Having a pamphlet-sized map booklet is nothing compared to having cardboard folder maps.
