Very nice place to eat and drink....

GenCon Auction Downsizing Collectibles

"We also won't be listing set times - just the order of things going up that day. If you swing by the auction room we should be posting the schedule for the following day (in other words - on Wednesday, we'll post Thursday's schedule, on Thursday we'll post Friday's schedule, etc....). Other changes will likely include less time on "collectables" with the semi-collectables included in the genre to which they belong. There will be NO Sunday morning auction." -- Larry and Jane Zoet

http://community.gencon.com/forums/post/106320.aspx

I wonder how they're going to decide which are Semicollectible and which are Full... and whether a list of which-is-which will be posted.  :?

I'm looking forward to going this year, and to meeting up with Acaeum folks again :D

I had thought that PPP would have a booth, but our cheapo booth option disappeared due to a miscommunication with GenCon folks, so we're looking at whether or not we can afford a full 10x10 booth or not.  I'll keep everyone posted, one way or the other.

If you're interested in playing (imagine that! :D ), the events that Rob is going to run are posted on the PPP forums @ http://p085.ezboard.com/fpiedpiperpubli ... =151.topic

The events haven't been added to the listings by GenCon yet, but should be there by Monday.

More later :D

I hope the collectable auction is still Friday night!! I actually go to Gencon to play games and socialize with people.  Spending all day waiting for the 5-10 items I want to go up for auction just won't happen for me.  If the collectable portion is not scheduled then I can't participate :?

The core question to me is "what's a Collectible"? If someone decides that all the OD&D supplements are Semi-, they'll be sprinkled in... and you won't find any Sup2 Blackmoors in the evening.

No word on any of that as yet. :/

I read the post from the link finally.

So Larry is running the auction now?

Hopefully they will ask Frank to be an auctioneer. I see that Tom will still be auctioning the train games so as far as I'm concerned it would be detrimental to the auction if Frank isn't there for at least the "collectible" auctions. Some people(myself included) may think twice about putting items in the aution if the knowledgeable auctioneers aren't going to be involved.

Well, SO far -- think twice, then.

As yet we have very little information... more as they dribble it out I guess.

When Auction God posted that he and Jon Huston were being considered to run it, Jeannette (GenCon Events manager) felt it necessary to clarify that they were in negotiations and that GenCon would post when something was Official.

God (and Jane Zoet) are posting some details about major changes (all to benefit the auction staff -- fewer hours, no set slots, no Sunday; nothing to help the attendees afaik). But GenCon has not posted anything about the auction as yet, so none of that is official.

So we all wait. :/

Update.

I've had a good phone chat with Jon Huston, and we're tentatively go/green for me to come and auctioneer, primarily collectibles.

Although the GenCon board has not yet assembled its fecal output, and has claimed that Jon and "Bruce Campbell" are running the auction (LOL), Jon and Bruce Carson do seem to be in charge, with Larry Zoet (a good man) as lead auctioneer and head of sales.

How does one go about being involved in the auction if one is not actually at GenCon? I mean, if I were to bid on something. Is it possible?

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.
