I'm in the Courtyard by Marriott; arriving on the 15th and leaving on the 20th.

I was in Texas (Houston) a year or so ago with 2 fellow canadians and an Aussie and we discovered your shiner bock :D   I think we drank about 60 bottles that night   The bar actually ran out of Shiner!  After that we left and went back to our hotels

I'm certainly looking forward to meeting as many of the other forum denizens as possible; almost as much as I'm looking forward to the auction and the dealers.

Anyone else coming with a spouse/significant other who's not particularly interested in gaming?  I saw a brief reference somewhere that there are events geared towards non-gamers but it wasn't very informative.

I'd love to bring my wife...but I suspect she is going to use my time away from home to party her ass off     Regardless, I'd love for her to make the trip, looking at KingofPain's ugly mug for 14 hours is going to kill me

Honestly I think that the only reasons Mike and I are going is to buy up all the cool shit we can get our hands on that we dont already have and to meet any Acaeum members that show up.  If we get in on a game or two then it will be a bonus.

My wife told me that she would be happy to come with me if for some reason Mike has to back out (you better not dammit   ) but I dont think I could put her through the boredom she will most likely have to endure.

Regardless, I'd love for her to make the trip, looking at KingofPain's ugly mug for 14 hours is going to kill me

How about a trade off.  I'll wear my glow-in-the-dark hockey mask.  That way you can read while we are driving at night and wont have to look at my hideous visage.  And in return....you take a bath before we leave and use deodorant.......

I will be attending for the first time this year. It is still months away but I am already counting the days. Looking forward to experiencing the big auction I have been reading about all these years and of course meeting some fellow distinguished connoisseurs of collectible participatory fiction*.

Airline ticket:         check
Hotel room:         check
Badge:                 check
Funds for auction:         Action item

*I can't remember who came up with this but I thought it was great :D

Cheers,
Curt

Don't Forget there are actually games to play at Gencon.  Thousands of games as a matter of fact.  The auction is fun but only so much of it!  Plan on doing some gaming.

Hi Guys,

In the near future I will be posting a request that each of you email me your intent to attend the Gencon Aceaeum 1st Annual Meet and Greet.  Since Frank indicated that the collectibles part of the auction would begin at 6 pm I'm thinking of an early dinner around 4.30 ish.  Nothing in stone as of yet.  Any ideas or suggustions would be appreciated.

Martin

P.S.  For those of you who have hotel reservations at the courtyard this is a reletively goood location.  Less than 3 blocks from the Convention Center.  In 2010 another hotel is schedule to open - it will have 1000 rooms.  Another Hotel you could try if money is no option - The Conrad, it just opened.

4:00PM may allow for a little more time to enjoy dinner and not be in such a rush to get back to the auction.

BTW: Any ideas as to where we are dining? I know there are plenty of choices within walking distance:

-P.F. Changs China Bistro $$$
-Ram Brew Pub $$$
-Rock Bottom Brew Pub $$$
-St. Elmo's Steak House $$$$
-The Claddagh Irish Pub $$$
-Ike & Jonesy's Pub $$
-Morton's Steak House $$$$
-The Oceanaire Seafood Room $$$$
-Palomino $$$
-Ruth's Chris Steak House $$$$
-Shula's Steakhouse $$$$

I'm sure there are others.

$$=average entree $5 to $10
$$$=average entree $10 to $20
$$$$=average entree $20+

Man I'm hungry now

Oops, forgot about that one. There are many more that I just can't recall. We live just South of Indy so we don't eat downtown very often.

I am cool with that as well.  Quite a few of those steakhouses are very pricey.  Last time I went to Ruth's Chris with my wife we didnt get out of there without paying less than $100....and we didnt have any alcoholic drinks either.

Too bad they don't have Texas Land & Cattle steakhouses in Indiana.   Just about the best steak I have ever eaten, and their prices are comparable with Outback's.

I checked out a few of these places and the Claddagh Irish pub looks very nice.  Always on the lookout for a place that has Guinness on tap.  :D

Claddagh's is cool. I haven't eaten there myself but some of our friends have and they said good things.
