Estimated print runs for 2nd edition

Does someone know the approximate print run differentials between first and second edition? Obviously it will depend on the type of item and what era. But, for example, how would early 2nd edition ('88-92) compare with later 1st edition material (like '83-87) print runs? About the same? Double? Triple?
