I am the person who originally posted this auction here, and I sent danteisevil a message via Ebay shortly thereafter. I didn't directly give him the link to the forum, but I did encourage him to google cougie's name and "m-bags". It's not hard to follow the trail from there.

Considering cougie has never shown an interest in posting here before, I'm not sure why a supposed "shill" of his would bother to come here and defend himself repeatedly.

Furthermore, most of the contact I've had with danteisevil has been outside of the Ebay messaging system, which would be useless if this was some sort of honeypot attempt by cougie to gather evidence to get a bunch of us banned from Ebay. Frankly, I don't even think he's that smart to try something like that.

I'm not sure what dante's lack of frothing outrage at cougie proves, either. If I was in his position, I'd probably be trying to look at things optimistically as well. If things are as they he says they are, then 1.) it's too late to do anything, 2.) he hasn't (yet) been actually ripped off, and 3.) hopefully the fact that dozens of people are monitoring this transaction will keep cougie from trying any of his shenanigans.

I've only been hanging around the Acaeum for about a year or so and the first couple of times I've seen people show up to defend a point or eBay seller I thought that some of the responses they got was agressive and even borderline paranoid.

Now I can plainly see that each of these incidents have a very distinct "odor" or "flavor" that makes them stand out immediately.
For any lurkers that might be feeling sorry for the poor eBayer who is being picked on:
I would state that they should watch a few more of these kind of exchanges and learn how to spot the shadies before getting burned themselves.

My point stands though...does anyone here really give cougarrinard enough credit to pull off a fishing expedition like this? I dealt with him - once - (hey, I was a noob, and it was just after he had started his "alt" screenname) and he struck me as being someone who was one step above functionally retarded. That, more than anything, is why I think this is legit. It just seems too clever (and w/Ebay fees, too costly) for someone of his intelligence.

We've seen this sort of thing (the "wronged" eBay user who registers here to explain how it is we're all mistaken and that he's really a great guy) at least 15 times now. And it has ended badly every single time.
