If you check DanteisEvils feedback his last transaction for the goods above that he is passing on to Cougy that he won from Grafxfx has the
usual posting in the questions setting of the auction.

Q:  I live in UK, but have a mate in USA with USA address, you could send it to him & he;ll get it to me, of course once he has it your part is done, this...more Apr-13-07
A:   Dave, Sure you can bid as long as the address is in the USA. I hope your mate can get it over to you without any difficulties. Sincerely, Thomas eBay...more

So Cougys american mate is DanteisEvil.

He could have easily just sent it without relisting it on ebay for Cougy, but
you know that arrogant idiot thinks he has got one up on us and wants all
to see it. Plus he wants his "m-bags are great" feedback drivel!

Anybody care to work out how profitable all this has actually been for Cougy? The items do appear to be in excellent condition. How much will he actually make on this lot?...heres hoping it gets lost at sea!

Wow, I am amazed.  That is a great catch ATOM. I am impressed.  Its funny, I defintely recognized that auction and I was really confused when I checked the sellers completed items and came up with nothing, because I was fairly certain that it was only within the last week or two.  Wow, Dave's patheticness seems to know no bounds.

Im learning from the master which is your good self! Its rare anything gets past you my good mate. You are correct as usual what a pathetic
individual Cougy really is. Expect lots of pro M-Bag feedback next from
Cougys buddy....also a "Cougys mate in the USA is DanteisEvil" forum heading. All i can say is congratulations to the Acaeum for informing and
protecting proper D&D collectors and traders from shady dealers like Cougy.More power to you all!

It's an interesting question. It's been a long time since I put up a listing on Ebay, but I would assume the fees on a $1K auction are not insignificant, plus probably Paypal fees to send $1100 to his co-conspirator (unless they've got something else going), plus whatever he's paying him for his time.

This sure seems like an awfully expensive way to get a single "M-BAGS ARE TEH GREATEST AND SO ARE YOU COUGIE!!1!" feedback that will disappear into the void of all his TITANIUM POWERSELLER feedbacks in a week or two anyway. In a way, I guess the sellers here can be grateful to him for being perhaps dumb enough to play his hand and reveal who his shill in the USA is.

Doesn't this transaction violate ebay rules in some way?  I know that bidding can be limited based upon feedback, but can a seller limit bidding to only one person?

OK.  Let him report this Ebay message to sonofayoda:

Beware of shipping items to the UK using shipping methods that cannot be traced.

Word to the wise

Pretty hard to make that into a personal slur on anyone.

Confine yourselves to purely factual statements.

Cougarrinard is clearly fustrated with people pointing out his reputation to large lot sellers.

He has loosed a lot of bluster about wanting copies of Ebay communications to "report to Ebay."

Make sure what you point out is totally accurate so he has no ammo with which to actually retaliate.

OK...I'm quoting myself...but make sure you keep your Ebay communications unimpeachable.

I did not mention the possibility that cougarrindard would set up a bogus auction just to try to lure out negative comments because I did not want to coach him on what to do.

You should expect it from a guy as angry as he clearly is.

No, there's no limit to how "private" an auction can be ... even all the way down to just one buyer.

I've been in contact w/the seller as well. It's a long story, but the gist is that I believe this was a legitimate auction and not a Cougy shill. As noted by deadlord, he says it's already been shipped as of Friday.  :(

He added that he's trying to register here to post, but having some problems.  Hopefully that will get sorted out.

Dante--hold on a moment; if you go back to my only post on this subject (until now), I had these points which left me scratching my head:

:arrow:   An auction limited to one bidder (I do realize it is legal to limit bidders; I had not heard of one being limited to one bidder only before);

:arrow:   The size of the lot, being sent all in M-bags (which I understand through the USPS site is not traceable--but even I understand that it likely would be cheaper than sending it all at once any other way, even through UPS or other delivery services);

   The history of Cougerinard, through the large number of negatives on his feedback (realizing that compared to total feedback, the %'age of "negs" is small).

Those three alone would get my attention--and it did  :) !  Also, I have dealt with Cougie in the past once or twice on my own, and did not had any problems (except when I forgot about the exchange rate and postage/handling from the UK; I bid in UK pounds thinking in US$ !).
Apparently it caught the attention of a lot of others here as well; I'll let them answer your post, as some of them also are sellers on eBay . . .

danteisevil wrote:I want to thank you for your concern. I was reading this fourm. It does worry me. I sent everything via mbag on Friday. I tried signing up on the forums to post my response but the confirmation email has not come  through yet. I hope everything works out well.

First of all, I want to say that you all know that this auction isn't any of your business. I do want to thank you all for your concerns. However, I want to clear up a few things. I have no previous relations with this buyer and all of the comments on this board are far from the truth. The buyer has excellent feedback and the sale worked out for both of us. I have a friend who is very interested in d & d and originally this set was for him. The friend didn't have an ebay account but I did, so I won the auction for him. Unfortunately, my friend did not have the funds at the time and I cannot sit on that price for more than a week without pay. The seller that I won the item from informed me that another buyer tried to get in on  the auction but the timing didn't work out. He asked me if I was willing to speak  to the buyer.
Everything was negotiated with the buyer and I setup a private auction for the buyer. But, I want to clear this up when I read about something I did on these forums. It does disturb me quite a bit. I needed to turn this item over quick and everything seemed to workout. I made a quick turnover for what I wanted and my friend didn't have the money on hand anyway so I didnn't want to sit on this bill. The ebay user had excellent pay time and everything worked out. I read some of the previous responses on this board and they are all wrong. This is the first time I have sent anything to the uk and probably the last. I only stumbled upon this auction for a friend and nothing more. Now I have a sad friend and a little money in my pocket. And to me, the buyer would make use of this collection much  more than I can, seeing that he is a collector. My friend is a big collector as well but doesn't deal with ebay. The sad thing is that he didn't get what  he wanted. Now he will probably have to pay even more to get something close  to this auction.
To address some of the comments. This is not a conspiracy or a contact of this ebay buyer. I have bought a total of about 5 things on ebay in years and the only reason this was bought originally was for a friend. You all can say what you want and come up with any ideas you have but I assure you everything was done under ebay rules. - Danteisevil

Thank you all for your concern and I will keep reading on this thread as time goes by.  I do apologise for my slow ebay response as I don't use ebay very much. I do thank you for making me aware of what I am getting into. Is there anything anyone can do about this in case the charge did happen in the future? I am not assuming it will but if it does what are the options?

I think most of the concern was that Cougie has been known in the past to "lose" m-bag shipments sent to him, and suddenly several months later the contents are available on his ebay site. Meanwhile he has cancelled the transaction and charged backed the amount to his credit card. Since m-bags are not traceable, there is nothing the buyer can do about this tactic.  Several variations of this theme appear in negative feedback on Cougar's id. However, YMMV, and you never know, it may work out ok.  I wish you well.  Please let us know if something odd happens and Coug does decide to charge back the shipment for some reason.

In the future? In almost every case, letting an auction run it's full course on ebay is preferable to a "private" deal.  D&D items are going for some amazing prices lately.  I have no doubt you have shorted yourself some money by selling to Cougar, but you wouldn't be the first seller he's screwed. Relisting the items would have been just as simple as what you did, except you might have doubled your profit and not had the off-chance the items will "disappear" and you will get nothing. Once again, hope this works out for you....

Understandable to the above post. I seriously needed to turn this over quickly so that I could get that charge off my credit card.  If the buyer makes more money, then he worked harder than I did for it. Personally, what the buyer makes off of it and what I wanted for it, were fair in my eyes. It isn't my concern what the buyer makes off of it. I don't deal on ebay much and I am not in it for a profit. This was more to not pay interest on a cc this month due to helping a friend.  I don't feel that I was 'had' in any way. Everything went very smoothly and from what I know of the buyer, he was very polite, straight to the point, and helpful.

I take no offense. No worries! :D

Hi there and welcome to the forum.  At this point I am going to give you the benefit go the doubt, although to say that I am little more than sketical right now would be a complete and total understatement, but we shall see.

Anyway, I think that you are missing the entire point that is being made.  Cougarrinard paid. He always pays and he typically pays quickly.  That has absolutely nothing to do with the transaction at hand. See you just shipped $1000+ worth of goods by an untrackable method. What this means is that whether or not Cougarrinard actually receives the $1000+ of merchandise that you just shipped him, doesn't mean that you are going to get to keep his $1000.

In a month or two, it is entirely possible that he will file a dispute through either Paypal and/or his Credit Card company as he done done several times in the past claiming non-reciept of the $1000+ worth of goods you just shipped him.  Now, Paypal says fine, they contact you looking for proof of shipment and keep in mind a Postal Reciept only is not going to cut it.  They will need some sort of proof that this shipment was received by Cougarrinard.  Without some sort of tracking on your shipment, you do not have that proof, you are flat out screwed.  If you can not prove to Paypal that he has in fact received it, which is impossible with an M-Bag, as it is completely untrackable, they will come after you for the $1000+ and give it directly back to Cougarrinard.   There is nothing you can do about it now.  If you do not have the cash in your Paypal account already, they will charge the bank account that you have set up with it.  If that charge bounces back, then they will go after your credit card and charge that.  Now if that happens that will leave you with the exact same Credit Card charge that you just were happy to eliminate and now, you also no longer have the goods to try and recoup it again.  In other words, you lose.

I will say that for someone who never sells on Ebay and has never heard of this individual before you certainly seem to be rather calm, cool and collected.  Especially considering, that you are currently on the hook to this person who you do not know for over $1000+ and the CC debt that you claim you were so happily to relieve yourself of, really has not necessarily gone away yet.
