This has got to be a put on.  Either that or it's wrong on so many levels that I can't begin to count them.

I have a better idea why don't titan, creep or cougie or one of the other sellers buy Foul's collection for 35K then try and resell it at the inflated prices they believe are justified?

Surely 35K is a small amount for these highly succefull sellers?  And the potential to make such a large profit quickly must have them chomping at the bit.

Maxie, take it from one who doesn't have a personal beef with you.  You haven't done anything to improve your standing on this forum.  Clearly your post was set to just stir the pot.

Here's a challenge for you.   Why don't you trying involving yourself in a topic in a constructive way rather than spitting out garbage.

Your thinking to small...What if I made cards modules figures toys whatever and then priced them and then bought most of them all. I would hold a monopoly. Cougar could do it with his H1 scam. Buy as many as he can and then start a pricing guide and name his price when demand goes up.

Rather easy would think but I am no business man...easy wordplay for you all.

Didnt another guy try it using B1 or B2....

If an RPG item typically sells for somewhere in the range of $25 - $50 (which is a large range, allowing for a great difference in market fluctuation) and a knowledgeable seller with a store puts it for sale at $95, then that is shady.

Look at it another way.  Maybe the $95 store is the first one the newbie visits and decides the price is too high and then wrongly assumes all other stores charge roughly the same amount.  This could cause them to permanently leave the marketplace because they think the hobby is too high priced for them.  End result is all sellers lose a potential customer.

Maybe he'll buy my collection.

Okay. The Pie-in-the Sky part of this thread is not going to be productive. It is clearly a conflict of personalities that is driving the discussion and not any particular issue.

As regards Foul's collection, I'd imagine it would make perfect sense for  someone (or a temporary partnership of different dealers) to take the entire collection and sell some or all of it on. It would be far easier to shift the products spread over the next year individually, and you might end up with a few choice pieces for free once the counting is done.

Or maybe a big group of collectors buy in for individual bits and see if we can pony up the money between us?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Big groups don't work. You would never get concensus... Plus you better move quick Foul already has an offer ... plus a potential second one to come.

I hadn't thought we'd given Maxie an honourific like 'THE'.

Just that he was intentionally given all the attention he deserved - basically, being ignored........

It's great news that he'll be able to get the price he wants/neesds for them.

I would have thought the guys from 'the fantasy museum' might have had a shot at it (I don't have any inside knowledge, just that they have been working at building a great collection for ages now).

Excellent, Maxie's back! How's the bankroll holding out, ass bandit? Pour your idiotic opinions on us, we need something to bash. And in the meantime, give me a call. You never answered when I called you. I'm all set to meet you in person to discuss the kid raping threat. I could care less about apologies.
Perhaps the profit-driven members are right. I know this: the reason I opted out of active collecting is the commercialism that has run rampant in the field.
Originally, this was a forum dedicated to collecting, sharing knowledge, and enjoying company. That seems to have somewhat disintegrated with the popularity of eBay and professional reselling. I doubt that Foul would sell the forum; if it became a commercial site, it would fall flat, and I or someone else would create another site.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

Coming back to pricing ethics, to make the point from the opposite perspective, I wonder what people think about finding old modules at a flea market or thrift store.

I mean, according to the discussion here, surely it would only be ethical to tell the seller, for example:

"Sir, you are selling me a ratty book called Tsojoconth for $1. However, despite its condition and lack of aesthetic qualities, the actual value of this item is closer to $1,000. Can you please adjust the cash register.. I wish to pay the proper amount."

I guess for every "shady seller", there are about 100 "shady buyers".

Actually, I have seen some of the members of this forum seek to inform sellers of the real value of rare items. There are some very genuine and caring people on this forum so put away that brush that you are trying to paint everyone with.

Personally, I would love to find a Tsojoconth for $1 at a flea market.  I suspect though that my chances in Australia would be quite low.

As I have stated before I also have no problem with someone trying to sell at rediculous prices.  What I do have a problem with are sellers that:

1. Lie about the condition of a item (ie overgrade it) eg. Tanya
2. Increase the shipping fee well beyond what they pay eg. Tanya
3. Run fake auctions eg Game Emporium
4. Compete against their buyers on ebay then try to sell the items they have won to the very people they outbid at rediculous prices eg creep
5. Try to monopolise a market eg. Cougie
6. Charge large shipping fees then package with tinsel paper.

Sea-to-sky which sellers do you believe we have listed as shady who we shouldn't have?

I don't have experience with any of them so I have no comment either way.

I was just remarking that it appears this forum is about one-way capitalism.

If you want to seriously argue that people are generally not selfish and do not wish to profit when the opportunity arises, then we'll need another thread.

And almost by definition, every single buyer on eBay, flea markets, whatever values the good far more than the price they end up paying for it... I mean otherwise they wouldn't buy it. If there is a couple people telling sellers the true value of the item -- to the collecting community or to themselves -- there are about 1 million every day that do not.

My brush stands ready. :D

Sea to Sky - I am almost exclusively an RPG reseller.  My comments are made from a reseller's POV and not a buyer/collector's.
